Ottensen said: of course they do...whole grains are better for you as they act a insulin helpers and help your metabolism speed up and keep ya cute. i live in central europe and basically eat a mediterranean based diet (very similar to how usa west coasters eat in wine country). and i essentially just used whole grained pastas, rices and flours in place of the white ones that pushed me inches closer to being a type 2 diabetic and did NO favors for me trying to look cute in jeans
the interesting thing i noticed when i was in the u.s. a few months ago is that they even have waaaaay more variety of whole grin food products than they do here---now if only they could stop putting white sugar and corn syrup as the second ingredient in all of them I know! we'd all be thin!

It is interesting to me now...because after months of therapy ( I had an array of eating disorders as a teen and it is all haunting my adulthood)
I am learning that the whole "diet" no carbs, no fat, no sugar, etc. makes you want it so much and you try too hard that you go over board on "bad" things and eat a loaf of bread every three days. The notion of total deprivation and so much focus on food makes us fixate so much. Then we lose and gain and hate ourselves and get fatter because we hate ourselves. I truly believe that if we didn't place such food value on bad shit, we wouldn't want it and we wouldn't go buck wild and binge. The years of obssesing about what I eat and how much I excercise have made me nuts! Think about it...if we weren't so over hyped about being so thin and then slammed with Burger King ads and then another ad that says "hey do South Beach because your fat" I don't think America would be as "fat" as it is. We place toooo much value on food, diets, being thin, looks, etc. It makes all of us sick in the head! Just my.. Have a piece of bread...just remember...you can ALWAYS have more...try it...eventualy the urge to wolf the loaf down will be gone [Edited 7/31/07 18:47pm]

Strawberry mini-bagel sounds good. I used to be a bagel fiend about a year ago. It was like a standard part of breakfast. Blueberry, cinnamon raisin, or plain with low fat cream cheese with a cup of tea or hot chocolate. I had to drop bagels cuz the cream cheese bothers my tummy, and substituting with butter doesn't work for me. My latest weaknesses are Cool Ranch Doritos, and Archer Farms Parmesian or black pepper and sea salt kettle chips, as well as crackers of any kind, oh and Chips Ahoy.
