E-mail Print Single page view Reprints Reader feedback text size: An Ocean City woman who has been charged in the death of an infant was denied bail this afternoon, and has not been charged in connection with the discovery of the remains of three other infants in and near her home.

A preliminary report from the Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore released this afternoon said that the first infant that was found deceased in the Ocean City home was about 26 weeks old and was stillborn. The cause of death is still being investigated, according to police.

During a bail review hearing this afternoon, Christy Freeman, 37, told a judge that, if granted bail, she would not flee, because she wants to clear her name. Her defense attorney had requested $100,000 bail, but District Judge Daniel R. Mumford ordered Freeman held and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Aug. 27.

Freeman has been charged with first- and second-degree murder after police found a dead infant wrapped in a bloody towel hidden in a vanity beneath Freeman's bathroom sink, according to charging documents.

Police said that they were contacted by social service workers early Thursday at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Police said that doctors determined that Freeman, 37, had been pregnant but the baby was missing.

Police said they searched her home in the 200 block of Sunset Drive on Thursday night and found the deceased infant. Police said Freeman lives in the upstairs apartment of the house with her boyfriend and four other children.

Later Thursday, the remains of two more infants were found inside garbage bags inside a trunk in Freeman's bedroom, a police spokesman said. A third garbage bag concealed with the other two contained what appeared to be a placenta, police said.

On Friday, the remains of the fourth infant were found inside a motor home parked in the driveway, said Barry Neeb, the spokesman.

The remains have been taken to the state medical examiner to determine the age and cause of death of the infants. Neeb said that the medical examiner will determine when the infants died, and whether they were full-term.

Police, with the help of the FBI's Evidence Response Team, are now searching the grounds of the house to determine if there are more remains, Neeb said. The excavation could take as long as three days.

Police released no other information about how the infants may have died, but said they charged Freeman under the "viable fetus statute" that was enacted in October 2005 and allows a person to be charged with murder in the death of a fetus that could safely be born.

The four older children who were living in the home were not harmed, police said, and they currently are with Freeman's boyfriend.

Sweet Lord....as badly as I want children of my own, this sickens me right down to the very core! Words just cannot begin to describe how disgusted I am with this woman.... Instead of calling the ambulance....calling for help...she took it upon herself to dispose of these children in such a careless manner....

She doesn't deserve to have any at all then damn it.... That's beyond gross!!

yeah until you know that she caused their death who knows what happened here?
i can't imagine it would be easy to force a 26 week old fetus from your body.

however it's probably safe to say that there are some mental issues involved.
