What do you do to cheer yourself up??

I turn 35 tomorrow and I've been thinking alot about my life lately...things I've done wrong...things I've done right...all in all, I'm kinda bummed...I know I got alot to be thankful for, but still...so, what do you do when you're down to pick yourself up....I'm open for ideas!

Second, I blast one of my favorite albums and dance around my house. It is even more fun if someone else is there to dance like a dork with you

Remind myself of all the things I should be thankful for (especially when you consider the amount of pain and suffering in this world); get some sunlight; talk to friends; get some rest; watch, read or listen to something funny that reminds me not to take life too seriously.

I feel that life is divided into the horrible and the miserable. That's the two categories. The horrible are like, I don't know, terminal cases, you know, and blind people, crippled. I don't know how they get through life. It's amazing to me. And the miserable is everyone else. So you should be thankful that you're miserable, because that's very lucky, to be miserable.

Happy Birthday soon balloons

I listen to music that lifts me up..Prince always works.
I write down things I have to be thankful for or happy about and things I would like to change then seriously consider making a change.
I try to set realistic goals for myself
I try to remember happiness is not all or nothing- even if some things are not the way that you want them to be it does not change the good things in your life.

I don't.

lol

It's true though. When I'm upset/sad/depressed I just have to let myself be upset/sad/depressed. Shut myself in my apartment for the day and sleep/read/watch dvds.

I suppose sometimes I go shopping. A new CD, a new pair of shoes, a new nail polish or something.

If I'm just feeling a little low energy, then I do the music, dance around the apartment thing, but if I'm truly blue, I just gotta feel the blue for a while.

Good point Carrie- some times it gets worse if you try to fight it.

I like to wallow in my misery. This might seem weird or morbid boxed but I think of all the bad things all in one hit and have a good cry and get it out of my system. Usually afterwards I feel a lot better and 100% more optimistic. Of course, this bothers those around me redface

This is SOOOOO totally cheesy too, but when I'm up, when I'm feeling good, when I'm happy happy happy I try to write down what I'm so goddamn happy about. The little things that made the day so great.
It helps to think of it later when I'm not so happy. To remember that I've been that happy before and I will be again.

You are ZK are right..I have had it all wrong..I usually fight it with all of my might. Though I admit it usually hits me at the worst time- like right before work so I have to fight it for a good 9 hrs or so.
I used to journal a lot- I found it was easier to do it when I was depressed though and harder when I was happy.
I need to change that.

Well why don't you write about it? Write it down, reflect on it. Go back to it periodically so you can reflect on where you've traveled personally since writing it. That might give you the incentive to keep on changing for the better. If you ever feel the need to share it, you don't have to talk about it as you've written what needs to be said.

Happy birthday smile

I know, I hate the "what's wrong?" question pissed
Usually nothing was really that bad, but when they ask that, suddenly I will start to feel REALLY bad!

When someone asks me that question, I start to cry. lol So I kind of like to keep my misery to myself, if that makes any sense.

Do you find that you cannot even make eye contact when you feel the need to cry? That's how it is with me and the moment I see another eyeball, rivers come out of my eyes lol

If I am gonna cry I have to run away boxed I can't bear to be around people, (unless it is at a funeral, or during a sad movie and I am not the only one crying)

Well I don't necessarily mind but those tears are triggered if I know someone can see the pain in my eyes lol

Maybe because it is perceived as a sign of weakness? We are told it is childish, grow up, big girls don't cry.
