No No. Thats when you ADOPT.

Foster care is when you only have the child for so long until they go back to their parents or whoever.

SHUT UP!!!!! eek

No....I wanted to do it ever since my son was born....cause like, I 'm HERE with the kids all day anyways.

But my husband always said NO WAY!!!

Well...I've brought it up to him on and off throughout the years....still a NO WAY....

But I've had my nephew here over night on and off and I love having more kids in the house.....and if I could actually get PAYED for it.....

The only thing is, I guess you get attached to them, and then they leave...huh?

It's wonderful that you are wanting to become a foster parent, my hat is off to you! The country needs more people like you, who are willing to step up and help out. If you are really interested in becoming one...I would first look up the state you are in, and see if they have anything online concerning their foster program. If they don't...call your local Human Service dept. and ask for information. There is such a shortage of foster parents, they would probably be very happy to hear from you. You just need to decide what ages, and handicapps you are willing to take in.

But you are right...you can become very attached to the kids, but being a once foster child, you can really make a differance in a child's life. I know I will never forget my foster parents. biggrin

can you stay in touch with them after they leave...like can you send them birthday cards or whatever? it wouldn't be so depressing if you could do that.

My foster parents stayed in touch with me. Many foster parents do, even more so if the child is with them for a long time. But I am not real sure what state rules would be..if they have any concerning that.

GET OUT!!!

OMG...That sounds so cool. I'll look into it...I think I could make the kids really happy.

Okay, I have to go.

I'm taking the kids to the park with our old neighbor.....but I'm gonna look into it.

Yes, well I'm not sure if you're aware or not, but kids don't come free.

The lady that lives next door to my mom had several foster children. She did it for the money. She had two teenage girls, they both got pregnant and she got paid for those children confused

She would lock the kids out of the house when she wasn't at home. She didnt want the kids to ruin the furniture.
They would get home from school and they would have to stay outside-sometimes way past dark. Even during thunderstorms disbelief And she would feed them only hotdogs several times during the week.

Years ago,my mom was asked to be a foster parent to her cousins child (an 8 year old). They didnt want to pay my mom because she's a relative. My mom had to say no because she couldnt afford to raise her. I was about to start college at the time. My mom really wanted to help her,she would let her stay with us on the weekends so she wouldnt have to stay at the childrens home.
The child is about to turn 18 now and she's very promiscuous and out of control. I'm sure if my mom would have raised her, she wouldn't be that way. They asked my mom again to take her in before she turned 18,my mom said "no way!"

Awwwww.

Yeah....in reality I'm SURE the system is taken advantage of more often than not.

What a sad story.

So anyways, yeah, I can HARDLY afford the two kids I have being a one income family. But I would LOVE to have more kids, its just not possible. So, I'd be a perfect candidate to take in foster kids....but yeah, I'd HAVE to get paid for it. Maybe that sounds cruel, but I can provide a stable and loving enviroment for these kids.

I just don't know if I'd be able to say good bye to them, if they had to leave.

Yeah you get paid, but I don't think it's more than the money that you should be spending to properly raise a child. I'm guessing the people who do it for the money don't spend enough on the kids.

Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm totally kidding with you.

Like orphans. Taking in kids who are abused or have been either taken from or have lost their parents or gaurdians.

I have to say...you won't get paid much money. And the child's medical is taken care of, either by the state or private insurance.

But...if you feel you can be a wonderful role model, and give the child what they are missing. Then go for it! But remember most of these kids come from very troubled homes, from physical abuse, to drugs etc...even some of the babies who are put in foster care will have problems.

Then you need to be ready to take them to any court dates, social worker visits etc...and be ready to have your heart broken when they are pulled from you. But I see it like this....if you can touch just one of those children, it will be a bigger reward then all the money in the world.

You have all my respect, and admiration for wanting to do this! hug

Oh, ok.

But allow me 2 find it weird that the question u have is "how do u get paid?" confused

I don't think one should take this in2 consideration as long as the child's necessary needs r taken care of.

I read your comment above. I think I'd have a hard time letting go.....I know that the main goal is to get the children back with the biological mother, and that is more often than not....a not so great scene. I'd have a very hard time giving them back.

If you become a foster parent, I think you might qualify to get one of those giant white chevy suv things to haul your kids around in from the state. NEW!
