I made a fat girl cry yesterday

And I kinda think it's funny as hell

I was operating this ride:

and this one girl cuts in line and nearly pushes other kids out of the way. She was struggling to get on the ride so her mother, Ms."I think having suntanned breasts are sexy" says," Don't worry hun, he'll put you on the ride, that's his job." In my mind, "WTF? nowhere in the job application says that I would have to operate heavy machinery." So I do the right thing and help the little girl. I'm having TROUBLE, and I mean trouble. I'm working up a sweat and she's getting pissed lol The mother and her other daughter are laughing their asses off and saying "She's a little hefty"

eek

O NO THEY DIDN'T!!!!!

So the other kids on the ride are like "What's taking so long?" but they're being really nice about the whole thing even though it's taking about 10 mintues and the line is getting long(and it never does)
The little girl says "Forget it!" and breaks down in a fit of tears. Her mom looks at me like I did something wrong, but then smiles and takes the girl away.

I felt really bad and I still do because I hate hurting a kid's feelings because they don't deserve it sometimes, but I couldn't help laughing when I told my co-worker.

As long as you remained professional and did what you could to help the little girl, then having a laugh afterwards is alright....nod

I'm not trying to poke fun at her, but I couldn't help laughing afterwards even though I felt like shit during and after the incident. I still do but everytime I tell the story, I end up laughing.

It sounds fucked up, but I can't help it

I deal with it everyday, but it's usually with the huge adults who try to get on the kids rides who see it as a joke mad

I wouldn't have let her do that. Get your ass to the back of the line and wait your turn like everyone else. That mother sounds like a piece of work. Damn people...

Don't feel bad. Sounds like her mom took this as a opportunity to embarrass her child about her weight instead of tackling it head on, bad on the mother's part but maybe it might inspire the kid. shrug Anyway, you didn't do anything wrong like directly insulting the child so get a chuckle and move on with life.

When does berating a child publicly and screwing with their self-esteem ever inspire them to be their best selves...?

I don't think the mother was trying to embarrass her daughter and I know I definitely wasn't because I tried my best so she can get on and enjoy herself even though it couldn't happen. She thought she could get on the ride but found out it was pretty hard. Alot of parents have had kids who can't get on rides for certain reasons. One guy tried to take his 13 month baby on a kiddie roller coaster. People also don't care. They think because the rides are for children, their child can get on. There's height requirements and several rules and alot of times, nobody listens confused

It's crazy how many ADULTS I or my co-workers had to escort off rides because they didn't have kids but wanted to get on the kiddie rides for laughs. It's not cool having to help out a 250 or 300 lb man in sweat soaked shorts of a ride lol

You wouldn't believe how many PARENTS that they couldn't ride the rides with their children because they can't fit into the rides and how pissed they got with me even though when I fasten the safety bar, they can barely breath or, the bar is giving them a vascetomy(sp?). But its always about safety. The kids need to be comfortable and able to have fun. This little girl couldn't get on the ride because not only her weight, but the fact she get into the seat because it was tall. I couldn't get her into the ride and I tried my hardest because it was embarrassing for her. Hell, when she got angry and started throwing a fit, I was like "Just wait, I know I can get you on, okay sweetie?"
Her mother was laughing because I was struggling, then got mad at me, then realized it wasn't my fault, and took her to another ride. If the supervisors had given me a damn stepstool, I could've probably gotten her on.

it doesn't but i don't think that's what he did.

it sounds like he tried to do his job in a professional manner and then laughed about it when thinking about it afterwards. laughter is a great way to deal with the stress and annoying-ness of life. I don't think it what he did was a big deal.

now if he had pointed and laughed and said, "that fatso can't get on!" in front of the child, mother, and line of children...well now that would be different.

Who berated the child? The guy was doing his job, and handled it nicely for that little girl and her family. The mom laughed, and made a comment the child was a little hefty, like a hint. I'm sure if the little girl had a ounce of intelligence she understood that the reason she couldn't be lifted onto the ride was because she was too heavy, period. And if it really is important to her, then. Sometimes, there are situations that happen in people's lives that make them "fight" harder. Sometimes these things are embarrassing, sometimes pleasant and inspirational, it's the way of the world. Was it the right way for this little girl? I don't think so, but since I don't know the family dynamics then I really don't know what the correct way for them to handle it was.
