Why aren't we straightforward? Okay, so this is blatantly stolen from/inspired by jess & carrie's threads, but i'm wondering- why can't more of us be honest with how we feel about others romantically? every single time i've been dishonest about it in my life (from embarrassment, or fear, whatever), i've regretted it in the end.
so today if you love someone, tell them. or if you don't love someone anymore, tell them.

I always try to be as honest as possible. If I like you, I'll tell you. If I don't, and you ask me if I do, I'll tell you. Sometimes straightforwardness bites you in the ass. [Edited 8/5/07 16:38pm]

[Edited 8/5/07 16:38pm] i meant tell someone you don't love them if you're in a relationship or something. it can, i think it's mostly worth the risk though.

i've gotten more honest about things like that as i've gotten older. Life's too short to pine away for someone or to string someone along who you're not interested in.

I'm not currently in a relationship, but I've told someone I didn't love them and yeah, that relationship ended soon after. I don't want to waste anyone's time when I know it isn't going to work out. I agree that more people need to be straightforward in romantic relationships. Keeping that kind of information to yourself isn't a good idea.

Unfortunately, people rarely want to hear the truth.
As far as the romantic aspect is concerned, yeah the naked truth is better than a white lie. If you lie a little to save someone grief NOW, it'll turn into a much bigger HURT later. But if your wife or girlfriend asks you if she looks fat in those white cotton capris, you either tell the truth or feign a convulsion. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I completely agree I agree with not stringing someone along. That can be downright dishonest. But sometimes it safe and easy to have a little crush with no intention of revealing it. No real risk involved and fantasies can be better than reality. I tend to be a pining kinda gal. Pining doesn't get you anywhere, sure. But sometimes you don't really want to get anywhere. |

so today if you love someone, tell them. or if you don't love someone anymore, tell them. Human nature. There's a gamut of reasons. Selfishness, noncomitment to anyone, the almighty dick, wanting and needing more than one person to fulfill needs....This is centuries old.
