I had a phone call on my way home today, from my Dad.
One of our dear family friends Leonard Nash passed from a heart attack at 5 this evening. The doc said it was a heart attack but it wasn't ....it was a long slow death from a broken heart.
Len was a huge strong man. He fought cancer for years, we all thought we would lose him years ago but he fought and fought for one reason....Cathy...his dear devoted wife, they fought together. They were like kids the 2 of them, always loved up and holding hands, despite 35yrs of marriage.
I used to sit and talk with him about my grandfather, you see Len was a navy man and had served in the same areas as my grandfather.

Then something went wrong, his happy strong Cathy was diagnosed with breast cancer and within 8 months was gone.

At that moment we knew his will was gone.

I remember at the church when we buried Cathy i snuck a hip flask with his name engraved on it in to the church. It was full of Woods Navy rum, his favourite tipple. We drank together and he smiled and told me that he would never forget that moment when we both drank to her.

Today his wish came true and somewhere and somehow they are together.

I am sad but happy too.

Your friend sounds like he lived life to the full, like he found something to strive for, someone to make happy and something to live for. I'm sure he has few regrets and enjoyed his whole life.

Cherish all your memories, and who knows - maybe you'll see him again.
