The one thing I learned about Tammy is that she really LOVED her some Jesus.


I appreciated her for strength.

I usually find super religious people extremely annoying but I always had this weird soft spot for her.

I saw that Larry King interview too.....and it was heartbreaking to watch.

She absolutely DID NOT hate gays. She was in fact very well aware that they constituted a large part of her support base and she very consistently reached out to them with messages of God's unconditional love.

I've seen some great documentaries of her later in life that totally made me fall for this weird, quirky, spunky, positivity-bunny for exactly that reason. She was just so open to love and accepting of all people, drag queen lashes and all.

for those who don't know what really happened in the 80s scandal and how they were totally fucked over by jerry falwell, i can not reccomend the documentary "eyes of tammy faye" enough

her son has actually become a notable minister here in brooklyn, and a big part of his message is aimed at gay people who avoid christianity because of all the rabid anti-gay stuff that many christian denominations do.
he's very much carrying on the work she started.
