The best has been 'Zodiac'. It was really gripping.
The worst has to be 'Black Devil Doll From Hell'. There were some other really bad films I've seen recently... 'Live Free Or Die'... 'Wild Tigers I Have Known'... Every other film I watch is just crap!!!

Well, it is fantastic. But it has that Western gaze thing happening, the white hero in the jungles of Vietnam, and the Vietnamese are somewhat demonized...seems like he could have done better in complicating things or making a political statement/parallel to what's going on now. Missed opportunity, but for a hardcore torture/war drama, it's great. i read a new yorker article on the making of this film, and since herzog was working with a major studio for this film, they required him to make some major changes in the script. the mainstream-y stuff was way out of his control, unfortunately. I used to hate going alone, but then when I started working as a film critic and going to press screenings I got used to it after a while (I didn't, however, get used to the fact that they were often at 10 in the morning ). Now when I'm not doing that anymore I've slowly gone back to hating going alone. It was particularly painful when I went to see Transformers alone recently, not only because the movie sucked big time, but because I was squeezed in between a bunch of ultraannoying teenagers.

Nikster said: Transformers was a movie where you had to just suspend your disbelief and enjoy. I mean, it's based on a toy line from the 80's...it's not gonna be Shakespeare. I wanted to see some of the toys I saw/played with as a kid kick some butt, and I did. With that said, I am looking forward to Thundercats.
I probably would have liked Ratatouille a bit more if I had not seen it 2 days after I saw Transformers, was not guilted into going by my mom, and was not dealing with summer burnout from my job. I'll probably give it another shot when it comes out on DVD, since I *do* like the stuff Pixar does usually. I'm taking a class on the history of cinema and the Prof wont shut up about "willing suspension of Disbelief." I'm so proud to have recognized the term and also just to have seen it. AWESOME! Obviously U have some experience in film? And don't get started with him on cell phones and people talking in the theatre. WARNING:...if U ever see E. Jacobosn in a theatre, DONT TALK, and TURN OFF your cell phone. If not, U very well might not walk out of the theatre alive. I have similar feelings on Transformers. By no means were there many, if any, great moments of cinema in it. If U let yourself get lost in it and remember your toy collection of old, it turns out to be a really "entertaining" film. Lots of action, comedy, all the good stuff. None of it the best, but a lot of it good. The CGI was great, though I'm not a big fan of CGI(massive downfall of the star wars series....it's painfully obvious when someting is completely artificial.) In short, when I walked out of the theatre, I had a huge grin on my face! edit:...lol...finishd reding your post...there's a THUNDERCATS MOVIE COMING OUT!!!!!....OMG OMGOMGOMGOMG! THUNDERCATS....HOOOOO! one thing about Transformers....U hardl ever saw the friggin decepticons....well...they were there...kinda...maybe they're saving them for a sequel. last night I saw "little children" and it was better than a lot of things I have seen this year, still not great though. Worst: Angel-A But I didn't think it was terrible, just the worst movie I've seen this year. Best I've seen year: Pan's Labyrinth Best I've seen released this year: The Lives Of Others I just remembered I saw Exterminating Angels this year. That was much worse than Angel-A. 2007 must be the year for French angel films.

I was pleasantly surprised by Transformers.....got to see a booted copy of it last night....though all I kept saying to myself was "Gee, can I have that for Christmas?" and I felt throughout that it was a glorified commercial for the new GM lineup of vehicles available for purchase....but all n all it was a good diversion for a couple of hours....I'd go so far as to say fun too..... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

I'll put The Golden Door on my must rent list. I should go see a therapist. There is the coolest indie theater in walking distance from my apartment and I rarely see any movies there. By the way, the French-Arab actor in the Angel-A poster above is the one that helped finance and starred in the Days Of Glory (Indigènes) film I was talking about a few weeks ago. He's very recognizable because he only has one arm.

I saw it in a gorgeous historical movie theater preceded by pipe organ, a packed audience of a couple thousand, and the director and actor were present to answer questions after the movie. So while the movie itself was spectacular on the big screen, the experience as a whole made it even better. I should go see a therapist. There is the coolest indie theater in walking distance from my apartment and I rarely see any movies there.
Seeing movies alone is kind of a habit to get into. Many times I actually prefer it, because I can sit with my own reactions afterward and not have to comment. And oftentimes, in my town, I run into people I know. I have some great movie-mates too who'll see my kind of movies with me, so that's good too. By the way, the French-Arab actor in the Angel-A poster above is the one that helped finance and starred in the Days Of Glory (Indigènes) film I was talking about a few weeks ago. That sounds like any movie seen in that setting would be great. Charlotte Gainsbourg plays the lead so I'm sure I'll think at the very least it's okay. I saw another one of her videos on MTV last night. I'm in love with her latest album.
