I think she said in her Jonathan Ross interview that she is not saying that she will never write about that world again. McGonagall would be Hogwarts headmistress.

I heard J.K. Rowling is starting a new series about other wizards, but in different locations. same world though.
It would be hell to have to go through what Harry did. However, it couldn't be too sappy.

Finished the book last night and loved it but not as much as The Half Blood Prince which was the best of the series to me.
Anyway....now that I have read all the books I can finally watch the movies. I hate seeing movies before I read the books because then I would be imagining the movie characters as I read the books instead of the characters as they are inside my own head. I think I am going to really try to cruise through the movies in a hurry so I can catch The Order of the Phoenix at the Imax before it leaves.

don't tell j.k. rowling right now though, she'll be wanting a break. but, imo, no WAY the world will let her retire harry i have a feeling she will eventually start a second series, but i am betting that if she does, it will be with new characters, most of whom won't be directly connected to harry. same world, different stories. Maybe Harry will have a kid who goes to the school?

I was disappointed by a few things but more than anything, when I finished the book, I wa sad. The part that hit me the most was Fred Weasley. When I read that Mrs.Weasley laid her hed on Fred's chest, I lost it. I cried many times throughout the book: Dobby's funeral, Snape's being killed (because I thought he was going to be good all along), the moment I realized that Dumbledore really was dead but mostly I cried at the end of the book. I had looked forward to each book in the series and I am going to miss the love of reading these books gave me.

I've been on vacation this week so I read the book rather quickly. I've already gone back and re-read the last 3 or so chapters. I'll start up the whole book again when I get home, then go back and re-read the entire series. As others have mentioned, I'd really like a nice set of the entire series. If I had one complaint...and really I don't...I'd have made the "Harry and Hermione hiding in the wilderness" plotline shorter and the last chapter a little more complete. So many characters died! Here I was ready for 2 and there where so many I was scared to keep reading. Mad Eye He died in action and that made it so touching to me. Dobby He died protecting Harry...died in Harry's arms... so touching. I totally lost it when Fred died. And that is one of the things I wish they'd have covered in the last chapter. We know that Ginny marries Harry and Ron marries Hermoine, but what about George? How did he cope without Fred? I LOVE the Weasley Family. I was afraid to read on because I thought Hagrid might die, or Ron or Hermoine or Neville. So many wonder characters died in the good fight. Man, I could just go on and on. In the end I think what keeps running through my mind the most is that the series is over. It was really a fun run! I'm firmly planted in denial

I finally read it and wasn't disappointed at all. I'd say it's one of my favorites of the series. One part that annoyed me was Harry saying Voldemort and summoning all the Death Eaters (they track whoever says "Voldemort")... damn that was stupid of Harry I thought... [Edited 8/2/07 12:27pm]

Mad Eye Moody's Death was strange, I felt like i wasn't getting all the info.
Poor Dobby. He felt by moral that he needed to protect Harry. He should have saved himself. i cant believe he had kids with Ginny. And the fact that Fred died. The fight between Molly and Bellatrix was awesome. "Voldemort screamed with fury at the fall of his last and most loyal lieutenant" or something. Incredible. When Snape died, im glad he had the chance to prove he was noble. But with all the crap that Malfoy and Harry becoming pals. They weren't enemies, but they weren't buddies. He just nodded at him and walked away. I can't believe Dumbledore. i don't think he truly neglected Ariana, but his brother Aberforth and Bathilda Bagshot made it seem so. I can see why he never told Harry that he once lived in Godric's Hollow. But I can't believe the Deathly Hallows thing never came up earlier, it was obviously the whole reason Voldemort was killing everybody, he'd have to have a reason to be evil. I'm glad Voldemort finally died, but I was expecting that.

I just finished it. I thought it was fantastic! There were parts that were really moving (Harry burying Dobby, Harry accepting that he had to die, and Snape's story to name a few).
dustysgirl said: How did he not really die there? Was it because he had all three of the deathly hallows? And was he saying that the elder wand was not the one that Voldy had, but the one Draco had which he took? I was a little lost there.
Dumbledore was the master of the Elder Wand. When Draco burst into his office, Dumbledore immobilized Harry (who was invisible under the cloak). This allowed Malfoy to disarm him. That's the equivalent of beating a wizard in battle, so Draco became the new master of the Elder Wand (even though he never actually possessed it). When Harry later disarmed Draco (and stole his wand), Harry became the rightful master of the Elder Wand. Possession of the 3 Deathly Hallows probably helped Harry survive, but there were other forces working as well. Because Voldemort had used some of Harry's blood to come back to life, I think he was a link to keep Harry alive (like a Horcrux, ironically enough). Although Harry couldn't be killed at that point, the piece of Voldemort within him (the Horcrux) was destroyed. I loved Harry calling him "Riddle" at the end! I saw that coming, but it was still great. I also liked how everyone got to help Harry throughout the mission. Each Horcrux was destroyed by a different person; the only one Harry himself destroyed was the diary way back in book 2. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Harry as a horcrux kept Voldemort from dying... and Voldemort having Harry's blood kept Harry from dying. The way I understood it, it was Lily Potter's love protection (that protected Harry when he was a baby) that was still protecting Harry through Harry's blood in Voldemort's veins.

What's up with the US book cover? I don't remember any scene in the book that resembles this - it looks like some kind of ancient arena or something. Is it supposed to be the ruins of Hogwarts? The Quidditch stadium?

With the curtains at the side and what looks like spectators in the background, it reminds me of a symbolic "final battle scene" or something like that.
