Do your tastes buds really change as you get older?

As a kid, my parents would always buy the Neopolitan ice cream from Bryers (chocolate/vanilla/strawberry combined). I would stay away from the strawberry part. Now i like strawberry, in fact I like it mixed with the chocolate.

I also didn't like carrots. Now I eat carrots right out of the bag razz

you?

I can relate with that...when I was younger, I use to love sunny side eggs, now the thought of them makes me want to puke! feeling ill But then on the other hand, I use to hate all green veggies, and now I just love them. I think just as you get older, you are willing to try new things, such as foods, spices etc...

I think it does, but not for sure.

One thing I know BEFORE having my daughter 12 years ago, I NEVER liked spinach or other veggies. But AFTER having my daughter, I LOVE all kind of veggies(except asparagus YUCK!).

Another weird thing that happened after having my daughter, I have curly hair now. Before it was straight as a board. I love my curls smile (Sorry got off topic for a bit).

Green or black olives may I ask?

My fave is green especially when I eat pizza all I have on my pizza is LOTS of green olives, onions and mushrooms.

And in the summer time freshly picked tomatoes from the garden, slice them up and have a tomatoe sandwich with a light spread of mayo.

both though I particularly like green as well, toots. I like your summer garden scenario as well, just add some wine and you've got a great afternoon/evening thumbs up!

I think most people like more and more things as they grow older (only in rare cases do we stop liking things we used to like). Some things just takes a long time getting used to I guess, and it takes an experienced palate to appreciate them.

I think with me, it's been sharp, bitter or tart flavours which I've grown to enjoy.

I think that smoking for two thirds of my life may have changed my tastes too.

Even babies taste buds change as they grow, my daughter used to eat her baby food carrots like they were going out of style, now that she is 12 she cant stand to eat them, who knows down the road in years, she might like them again.

Yeah, I used to hate vinegar, green vegetables, avocado, radishes, mustard, and pretty much anything spicy.

Now I love all of that. In fact, a little slice of radish topped with avocado and wasabi sounds pretty good. . .

I still really can't stand olives and pickles, though. I'm afraid those might be lifelong hatreds.

So far mine are pretty much the same - I've always loved different veggies, I eat the same ones & a bunch of new ones that my mom never made. I've cut a lot of crap out of my diet, shit that used to be staples growing up. I just can't eat them anymore...

I've cut a lot of crap out too. But most of it wasn't because my tastes changed. Just a sense of responsibility for my health. rolleyes

Some things I liked as a kid I would find totally nasty now, though. A lot of the really shitty candy. . . sweetened corn syrup, sour powdered stuff, chocolate with hardly any actual chocolate in it. . .wouldn't go near my mouth now. ill

Children's taste buds are much more sensitive than adults'. That's why many of them don't like vegetables.

Yeah, kids are very sensitive to bitter, especially (presumably to protect their delicate little bodies from exposure to poison).

I have to disagree with you both on this one.

My little sister, when she was younger, AND my daughter loves to pull fresh veggies out of the garden(dirt and all) and eat lemons WITH the peels on them. Some veggies like the green onions have a bitter flavor(especialy at the greenest part of the onion, I know I HATE that part of them, I eat the white part ONLY).

If their bodies are so prosumably sensitive to the bitter tastes. Let me point out why are kids now days eating the sour balls candy and bitter candy they make these days?(Not trying to start a argument but trying to point a few things out)

Kids will try and eat anything they put their hands on, especialy toddlers. I have seen family wee ones eat the plants they have in the home and dirt right along with it.

Research has demonstrated the bitter thing (in a certain age range, and I don't remember exactly what it was). Research describes the majority. There are always exceptions.

Note that bitter and sour are not the same thing. smile And tastes can be acquired.
