What did Orgers who frequent the GD forum Think of Prince's new CD?

What did Orgers in the GD Forum think of Prince's new CD? I thinking of the people who got it on Sunday. People in the Prince forum rarely criticize his work. We keep it honest on the GD Forum.

How is it the wrong forum. My question is directed to the people in the General Discussion Forum.

How is anybody going to be on the GD Forum and not even be a Prince Fan?

So it's a fair question.

I listened to it once some days ago. I like 2 or 3 songs and don't care much about the rest. I don't think it's worse than 3121.
With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Imago

It's about average for a Prince album. If it suffers, it does so under teh weight of fan expectations, much like ATWIAD in the shadow of SOTT. Though unlike ATWIAD, this isn't gonna trip anybody out. I do like it a lot.

It's nowhere near the genre breaking albums between his mid to late 80s stuff, but then again--what is?

Notable things about it to me: It's got very sweet melodies, very syrupy and almost...soft, but other than 2 tracks isn't Prince trying to sound like somebody or playing catchup anymore. It's Prince being Prince. All the midnights in the world is so shamelessly sweet, I can't stop listening to it. It's like Joani Mitchell married to Paul Simon circa 1969 or something. I love it.

Minuses: It's a bit short, and for an album titled "Planet Earth" lacks the overall "concept album" feel/approach you'd expect it to. I mean, SOTT, suffered the same problem, but SOTT was wildly innovative in it's day. Planet Earth, rather, is a pop album, from an obviously skilled songwriter, who had a few thoughts, but didn't let them compete with the hooks.

Here's to more surprises, good or bad thumbs up! in the coming years.
