when does a mid-life crisis actually begin? what are the things you start doing that signal that you are actually trying to be younger and hipper?
my boss is 62, and he dyes his gray hair burgundy for some reason. of course, he ner protects his forehead/scalp, so he comes in with this dark dye all around his forehead and ears. lasts about a week then he's gray again. go figure.

Seems to happen to men and women both. I think there is no set age.

I think the Grup movement, and other various mid-life rebellions in the US, are indications that some folks no longer view aging as something to be ashamed of, but something to reinvent. I know girls my age who will admit their age, even if they are not happy about growing older, whereas when I was a kid, women HATED and almost NEVER admitted their age.
These new movements are saying, just because I've reached my 30s, 40's and 50's, doesn't mean I have to be placed in a box and told how I should enjoy my life. Why can't a 50 year old kayak on weekends, or go surfing, etc? Though dressing young and hip is one thing--dying your hair brown when it really is Grey and obvious, may indicate a crisis of some type. Prince, let it go gray, son

i cringe when i see grown men and women trying to rock some new urban wear gear. this lady i saw had to be about 60-65 years old wearing a damn Baby Phat coat... i was like, now you know you grew up was in the same graduating class with Lena Horne, take that small ass coat off. As for the Q @ hand I'm not sure, but it's SO sad to see. I don't know what's worse - when you're too old for the things you're trying to carry off OR when you've gotten stuck in some outdated look that makes you look even older than you really are

He needs a professional stylist, not a "home job". I see "mid-life crisis" as dumping the spouse for a much younger person, somewhere in the 40-50 age group and changing one's lifestyle drasticly. Maintaining one's appearance and health is a reasonable thing to do. Not what I would consider a mid-life.
