Ex-Moderator | Nope. Never.
But I'm glad there are those willing. |

No.
I'd be working for a madman.

yes, I would but I'd have to go on the buddy system.

No, if I die I'd like it to mean something. Like say, if I pissed off a crazy homeless guy and he stabbed me, while laughing maniacally. That would be something for the 'ol tombstone. And my feelings on the LAPD can best be summed up by NWA.

It was a very rewarding career for me, and I had a blast and met some beautiful people who are still my friends today. But in this environment and given the irrational decisions made by our leadership, I wouldn't personally do it. IF someone already has their heart made up, I would gladly offer my advise on what branches or career fields to choose though. God speed renegade20's return

Right now, no. But I did consider enlisting in both in the past.

No. I faint when I see blood and wounded people, and I would not want to get wounded either.

God speed renegade20's return I'm well past the enlistment age for any of the branchs but I did see that a few cities are raising the age limit for police officers because they're in dire need of them.

I'm like yeah right--maybe i'll get to go to Somalia or Pakistan instead. no thanks.

I actually tried and went through nearly three months of the training in the police academy. Then I was told by Sgts., in a group, to give-up on the idea of being hired locally because they wanted a force that matched the demographics of the community. Since I didn't speak Spanish, and wasn't hispanic, he basically said us white guys should look in other locations in the U.S. So that career training came to an abrupt halt.

I'm set in some of my ways but not nearly as many as most think... but I'm surprised, did the recruiter now you're 39? and no, I don't beleive the crap about not going to Iraq or any hot zone.

Funny....I enlisted in the Marines almost 9 years ago. got out 2 years ago. Didnt love every minute of it. But I had a damn good time. I went to Iraq twice, and I got my school money. it is what it is. Did I agree with the government? Nope, But I did sign the contract so I did my damn time. Got out and coincidentally I work for a police department. I'm a 911 dispatcher though not a cop.

i have several friends who are police officers--these guys make $40-75,000. (but that's after 15 years of service). i live in baltimore, which is like top 5 in per capita murder, i think we'll end up with like 300+ this year alone. i can't be out policing crackheads and drug dealers for a paycheck, sorry. besides, with my bad temper, i'd be shooting people every day for getting smart with me.
me: license and registration, please. them: fuck off, copper pig! me: BLAM! have a nice day.
