So, my car stops accelerating on the freeway on my way home from work. I have no idea what the heck's going on, so I start frantically changing lanes, putting my hazards on and exiting into downtown. It seems to go OK in 3rd gear for a while, so I press on and decide to take the back streets home.

I get to a fairly busy intersection and the car just stops. And will not start back up again. So I put my hazards on again and go hunting for my triple A card. While I'm on the phone with them, 2 amiable passersby start pushing my car off the road and I'm all steering and talking to the nice lady at triple A and saying thank you out my window.

The tow guy gets there in record time and we're away to the shop.

I drop it off and am quite happy when he tells me they'll get to it right away. I applaud myself for remembering the multiple bus routes I can use to get home.

It's starts to sprinkle on my walk off the bus, so I hurry a bit. Good thing I did, as my home phone is already ringing when I walk in the door.

"Is this Carrie?" he asks. "It sure is!" I say, "Just walked in the door."

"We took a look at your car, and I don't know how to tell you this... '



"ok.... what's wrong with it?"



"You ran out of gas."

sounds like something that would happen to me!

I am so glad that has never happened to me.....I've driven until the gas light came on a few times before too. Yeah, that would be pretty embarrassing to explain what happened.

It's an old car, so no gas light and I've only had it for just over 5 months. I guess now I know when it looks like about an 8th of a tank left, that really means "empty".


I asked him to do an oil change, just so's they're doing something. It's due for one anyway.
