catherine deneuve gena rowlands i love watching them act, plus they're gorgeous old broads. If John Cassavettes were still alive and making movies, I'd probably make sure I got to the theater for them. His daughter, Zoe Cassavettes, just came out with a film this month.

NDRU said: heartbeatocean said: I actually get tired of watching famous people over and over again. I like non-actors or unknown actors in movies. Then you can get absorbed in the character and story withouth thinking the whole time "I'm watching a Johnny Depp movie"
That's what bugged me about The Departed. It was so over-glutted with famous male actors, it was just a big showpiece. And though the story and movie were good as whole, it seemed obnoxious. [Edited 7/11/07 12:10pm] totally agree. Even worse is casting famous people to do voice work. Often they're only passable as movie stars because of their looks. Julia Roberts & Cameron Diaz are not what I'd consider "great voices." I know, it's so stupid. Basically in this star worshipping culture, a film cannot get made or financed unless tied to an a-list or b-list actor. Actors have so much power in the industry now, they are producing their own and others' movies, as they are now some of the few who can afford it. They are in the power to decide what gets made and what doesn't. Basically the nation's cultural output depends on what actors want to do. It's all so meaningless.

Jimmy Cagney Barbara Stanwyck (maybe my top choice...everybody should watch The Lady Eve, my favorite comedy!) Rosalind Russell Jane Wyman Bette Davis Henry Fonda (40s and 50s era) Rock Hudson (just cuz he was hot...couldn't act for sheet) There's a Barbara Stanwyck retrospective going on in my town. It's lasting a couple of months. What are your favorite Barbara Stanwyck movies? besides Lady Eve, that is. I'll go see that one. [Edited 7/11/07 21:24pm]

He came out with a book and was signing books at the Balboa Theater. I told him I was huge fan and that he was really important to me as a child. He looked at me square in the eyes and did a little nod. I was so that I showed up the next night at Herbst Theater without a ticket. He was being interviewed on stage and the freaky thing is a woman walked up to me and GAVE me a ticket. It was 2nd row center and I spent the whole time smiling at Gene and I think maybe he remembered me from the night before. I want to have his baby. [Edited 7/11/07 22:07pm]

Anxiety said: MsLegs said: His indie and major projects are brillant and hilarious. even a bad john waters movie is a good movie, just because he always manages to slip at least one or two killer jokes or lines of dialog in his scripts. plus, in his movies, the hero is always the outsider/freak. i always feel better about life after watching his movies. John Waters is mad cap, Camp, over the top and he don't give a damn. And that's what makes his stuff interesting and a trip.
