Best line of the flick:

"Bumblebee, stop lubricating that man."

I thought the best line was when the mother asked the lead character if he had been masturbating. lol

Did you? I just got back and I don't think they could have made it any more boring. Definitely the worst of the Potter films. I'm a huge fans of the books, and I like the movies. But they not only slim-lined "Phoenix", which would have been fine, but they completely stripped the story. It was the first of the films that really needed to be longer than it was, just to make more sense.

I'm not a Harry Potter reader, and I thought the 3rd movie was incomprehensible unless you read the book. This new movie was simplified down to the drama of the frustrating lady taking over the school (brilliant performance), Harry training and leading his army, and the confrontation, and the resolve with all heroes coming out vindicated. I never felt much in the other Harry Potter movies save the fourth which had some good romance tension.

Interesting.
You thought "Azkaban" was bad? I think it's the best one. "Goblet" is second best to me, but only because it wastes so much time on the Yule Ball. "Phoenix" was just dull to me. For being about the Order of the Phoenix, they had barely anything to do in the film. Even all the stuff about the prophecy seemed like an afterthought. It would have been a better movie if the screenplay had been filled out a bit more.

In Azkaban, there was no explanation as to the significance of a werewolf, a tree, a dog shapeshifter, why the prisoner is good or bad or even in the story, why there is a stag, why the pet rat is not just a rat, why anything is even remotely pushing anything forward as far as Potter's destiny. It's completely different if you also have read the book. Then you know why all this stuff is happening and it is more than 2.5 hours of elaborate special effects and noise with no emotion or tension.

Phoenix features that woman taking over the school, and that created the most memorable tension and emotion yet that actually helps propel a cinematic storyline (in my opinion).

That's just funny to me. I mean, I'm not knocking your opinion. Just that most critics seem to site "Azkaban" as being the best of the 5 so far. I love Alfonso Cuaron.
I believe they do tell why Sirius Black is bad, that he killed 13 people with the unforgivable curse and that he betrayed Potter's parents.
"Phoenix" just ignored so much. Not necessarily story stuff, but things like ghosts and talking paintings and everything that makes it a "Potter" story. And what did the Order really have to do with the story in the movie? They fly Harry off to London and are barely mentioned again. Big deal. He could have accomplished that himself. biggrin
I loved Kreature in the film, though. And Luna Lovegood. But over all, I'd put this 3rd behind "Azkaban" and "Goblet."

no doubt Cuaron is a good director, I just think that the third potter script is bad. Not the novel, the script.

Although I thought that was funny, I saw it coming and didn't really laugh at it becuase....well, a joke requires the element of surprise. lol

But I kept thinking, there are little kids who came to watch this with their parents. I know the rating should have tipped them off, but really--it's about the Transformers. Do parents really need to explain to their kids why that joke is funny? It just seemed like a cheep joke to put in there to get a quick laugh from teenagers in the audience. shrug
