One day in an undisclosed locality down South a black farmer kills his herd, salts his land, packs his bags, burns his house and decides to take his family up North. Soon after all the black inhabitants of the locality decide to do the same... It's a great (a bit Faulknerian/Morrisonian) novel with one of the most sublime closing scenes. I literally shivered reading the last page. I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt. | |
