WHAT Lighthearted, Guilty Pleasure BOOK are You Reading (or would recommend) ?

Florida Roadkill by Tim Dorsey.

His central character in all his books is a historian who always forgets to take his meds so goes off on some very senseless adventures throughout Florida. He weaves the morally corrupt characters, each with their own shameful goals, together is a mesh that proves hilarious with every read.

Ultimately this shit isn't literature as it teaches us little about the human condition, but he does always throw in historical references that enlighten me to the insane and corrupt State I live in. shrug

"is there an afterlife?"

(analysing the evidence)

...the author seems to think so, so I guess in a way it's pretty lighthearted.

OMG, I've got this totally great phone joke that starts off "What has a little bitty penis and hangs around General Discussion" The punchline is "2the9s", but the second part of the joke is even better!

I'm currently reading "Founding Brothers" by Joseph Ellis, about the 1790's and the Revolutionary generation.
My next fun book:"Uncommon Arrangements" by Katie Roiphe, about seven post-Victorian power couples (mostly writers) who modernized marriage. Equal opportunity philandering.

You already read them both? I loved the first and the follow up is good but the 10 years between writing left it a bit different!

They are a bit different though for me I enjoyed that part as well

sometimes even good writters get into to a mundane rut then their books loose personality

nod Agreed... I feel he probably felt preasured to write a follow up to the stellar work.... perhaps should have left it? But is delightful to see Liirs progression non the less!
