How's the Public Transportation System in your area?

Today is 7 - 07 - 07, live Earth and all that good greenpeace shit. I took the Metro Link train from L.A.X. to my home. It was a nice smooth ride. It took about an hour and was comfortable and I got to read a newspaper and eat a bagel and pass up a bunch of cars on the freeway in traffic. It was kind of cool as I don't use public transportation very much. I was gonna walk home cause its only 15 minutes from the train depot to my house. Instead I rode the bus. Now that was a completely different experience altogether. The ride was quick and easy and relatively cheap. The problem was I was with a bunch of stinky vagabonds and vagrants and some mentally unstable people and gangsters. It felt straight ghetto. I will never again ride a bus other then a charter bus to a vegas turnaround, or a school bus to a field trip or football game, again in my life. The bus is NASTAY! Hows the public transportation in your neck of the woods?

It absolutely sucks ass.

And even city-to-city transportation is bad.

It's almost as easy to drive 4 hours to Miami as it is to fly.

You can get to Miami quicker via car than train. lol

And forget about getting from East Tampa to the beaches in less than 2 hours.

Well, I used it in 1994 (it has since gotten a bit worse as they offer fewer lines now).

But then again, my last experience was bizaar.
I got in to an argument with the bus driver for being rude, and at our next stop, a field trip for mentally handicapped people got on board and sat all around me. I have nothing against them--it just added to the strange ride I already was experiencing.

It took me 40 minutes to get to the now defuct Tampa Mall, which normally takes 10-15 minutes in your own car.

amtrak trains take FOREVER. especially if they get delayed. disbelief they're not bad, but i'd rather drive given the choice.

when i was 14 i used to take city buses home from school everyday, which usually took 1 1/2-2 hours. i didn't mind them (other than how long it took to get home), but my friends at school were always horrified. they thought i'd get murdered or something. rolleyes lol

I LOVED the public transport system in and around London. You can get ANYWHERE!

OMG, and Germany? Their public transport was even nicer. I mean, their transportation is sooooo cheap and easy to use.

I swear, in Europe, your options on where you want to live and what city you want to work in are greatly increased from Americas. You can live 2 hours drive from home, and the train can get you there in less than an hour.

Why can I picture you on this bus clutching a man purse to your lap while all the downs syndrome and wheel chair kids are smiling and drooling near you as you have this look of horror in your eyes! lol

The trains in London seemed kinda fluid, I guess there are exceptions to the rule!

I start work at 5am and the earliest bus is 6.45am, and it's £1.90 to get there.....(Just 6 miles!!!)

I took a bus from NYC to Boston and loved the drive. It was beautiful.
That was my only good Bus experience in America. lol

And yes, Amtrack takes forever.
If they would just upgrade, I'd love it. I love riding the train compared to planes. Airports suck major ass--I like to avoid them when I can.

But 5 hours to Miami? disbelief
It should only take 2.5 or 3 hours on a train at the very most.

I mean, I can take my car and be there in 4 or under.

How long would it have taken you to walk home? Did you get a special student bus pass?

Wow thats a pretty long way to school an hour and a half is actually not that bad. Shit when traffic on the 91 and 60 get all fungled up a drive home from work that should take me 15, 20 minutes tops takes an hour and I'm only 14 miles from work.

The thing I like about commuter rail is that no matter what the traffic conditions or growth is in your city, once you're on the train, if it takes the train 50 minutes to get into the station, that shit never changes. 30 years from now, it will still take you 50 minutes.

On a car, that shit could change in 6 months, or daily depending on what asshole derides he's gonna ram sombody's ass.

That is so true. I would take the Metro Link to Work if I could but the city I work in has no train depot. Plus I work in the ghetto, so if I rode the bus to work out there I would have to fear for my life everyday.
