Raw Food Detox/Diet

Has anyone done this or followed a raw foods plan thoroughly? I did the Master Cleanse Detox, made popular by that woman-we-love-to-hate Beyonce -- and actually lost 20 pounds in 13 days! Robin Quivers (from Howard Stern) was on 'Larry King Live' the other night touting the diet as well. I did it and felt better, especially after losing weight that I just couldn't lose before, but now what? Afterwards, they recommend you go to a raw foods diet. I work-out a lot, and protein has always been important to me to have muscle. I'm afraid I will turn into a skinny waif!

Surprisingly, "raw food" isn't just carrot sticks and salads. But how does one stick to such a thing after what seems like an addiction to cooked food?

I've fattenned up far more than I wanted to the last year and a half, but I'm afraid of losing chest, arms, etc. as I lose this weight too.

It seems like it's a weird balancing act. lol

What about protein suppliments?

You could be on the raw food diet and just have a shake after working out.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

I don't know how one leads a "raw" life. I mean there's vegetarian, vegan, and then raw. I know it's supposed to be good for you but the time and cost to prepare food raw just don't balance out for me.

From Wikipedia...

Raw foodism is a movement promoting the consumption of uncooked, unprocessed, and often organic foods, as a large percentage of the diet. A raw food diet consists fully of foods which have not been heated above a certain temperature. The maximum temperature varies among the different forms of the diet, from 92ºF to 118°F (33°C to 48°C). Raw food diets may include a selectıon of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds (including whole grains), eggs, fish, meat and unpasteurized dairy products (such as raw milk, cheese and yogurt).

A raw foodist is a person who consumes primarily raw food, or all raw food, depending on how strict the person is. Raw foodists typically believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. They generally believe raw food prevents and/or heals many forms of sickness and many chronic diseases. Freezing food is considered acceptable by many raw foodists; some choose to preserve nuts and seeds in a freezer.

by the way, a diet consisting of more than 50% raw and uncooked or unheated
food can have very negative effects on people who are cold natured. it's an
idea with many good points but as with any diet moderation is the key. too
much of anything or of any diet is a bad idea. it's a cliche, yes, but it's
not a cliche for nothing. too much of anything is always bad.

There are a lot of foods that shouldn't be eaten raw. Grains should be fermented, for example. Cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage) contain goitrogenic (thyroid suppressing) compounds that should be neutralized through cooking or fermentation before they are eaten.

I love raw food (including raw meat), but it isn't terribly practical to eat that way all the time -- unless you have someone preparing your food for you.

Which celebrities can afford, but isn't really possible for us ordinary folks.

I fail to see the point in a raw food diet. Including some raw veggies in one's diet is a good idea, because a few nutrients are heat-sensitive to varying degrees, but why make a religion out of it? What, exactly, is it supposed to be DOING?

Every answer I've ever read to that question was completely bunk, from a scientific perspective.

Losing 20lbs in 13 days isn't healthy, and it's unlikely to stay off.

I think a lot of people attempt that. The thing is, a pendulum that has been pulled far to one side wants to swing far to the other when released. . . I think participating in fad diets (which raw/detox diets are) actually makes it harder to live an overall balanced life. smile
