Woman Suing Over Starburst Candy Injury

Plaintiff Says Candy Caused Teeth To Stick Together

POSTED: 7:17 am CDT June 28, 2007

BOSTON -- A Michigan woman is claiming that a sweet snack turned into her worst nightmare, and now she's suing a well-known candy company.

Victoria McArthur said she misaligned her jaw while eating Starburst candies.

She said a piece of the candy caused her top and bottom teeth to stick together, resulting in a condition called "temporal mandibular joint dysfunction."

McArthur is seeking $25,000 from the Mars Corp. to pay for her rehabilitation, plus compensation for her pain and suffering.

There has been no comment from the company on the lawsuit.

I used to have it kinda bad, but I haven't had a problem in a few years. I still can't chew gum, though, or I can tell a real difference. There were mornings when I couldn't open my mouth all the way for a few hours after waking up. And one morning I went to drink a glass of water and couldn't open my mouth wide enough to drink. I tried as hard as I could for several minutes to open my mouth until there was a loud popping noise and it opened. confused
I do'nt grind my teeth at night, but I used to clench my jaw, incredibly tightly. I started making a conscious effort to sort of meditate and relax my jaw as I fell asleep and that seems to have done the trick for me.

But blaming starburst for tmj is ridiculous.

Nothing surprising me anymore. People will sue over the most rediculous things. I knew it was the beginning of the end when a man sued Mickey's D's coffee for being to hot. So what's next ? People will sue Johnson & Johnson b/c ky didn't lubricate them enough.

What? Mostly everyone knows that Starburst is a candy that can stick to teeth.

I really like spicy food. I mostly put Jalapenos on a lot of my food.

"Pardon me, what kind of starburst did you just say?"

"berries.."

"Berries?? Berries and what else?"

"and cream.."

"UAHG! OOGH!"*stares creepily, then sings*

"Berries and cream
Berries and cream
I'm a little lad
Who loves berries and cream!

Berries and cream
Berries and cream

Who loves berries and cream!"
