Strange thing.

I was planning on seeing it today.

Michael Moore, for all the controversy that surrounds him, and regardless of his agenda, makes powerful films that at least get dialogue going. Democrats should not be allowed to call themselves Democrats unless they vow to reform the agenda.

Think about it, 70% of Americans want some form of Universal Health care. That's a healthy dose of Republicans too. It's just time we move forward. There's no reason anyone should have to pay an enormous healthcare bill for this crappy ass service we get here in the states.

I left for Canada in August! C'mon up! I'll throw a couple more burgers (or veggie burgers) on the grill! woot!

I saw the movie yesterday. Of course, Moore's argument and examples were near-completely one-sided, his depictions of international healthcare approaches were almost totally without any substantive critiques and his droning, Sally Strutheresque lament/narrative drove me NUTS. But he does a great job at driving home the point that the current U.S. system is screwing too many working, contributing, responsible people. Moving stuff... and, as always, pretty funny where it needs to be.

My guess is his one-sidedness is going to leave a LOT of room for rivals to come in and mount counterarguments based, like Moore's, largely on anecdotes, horror stories and social ideology. (When what we truly need is to debate logistics and cost.) But Sicko is definitely going to fuel the conversation, and that's a fantastic first step.

I totally agree with this assement.

But I feel that the nobody else out there was blowing the horn loud enough, so if anything, Moore's good for that. lol

As for the movie, I'm sure I'll see it at some point, but I just don't feel like getting upset or depressed. And I know I will.
Healthcare is among my top complaints in this country and yet no one seems to take it seriously. My insurance benefits, while considered good overall, have declined dramatically in the last 3 years and I'm paying about triple what I was. We simply do not promote health and wellness in any way in this country. And we don't value it. And if I keep talking I'll get all wound up and upset and that's exactly what I don't want.

Totally agreed.

It almost make me wish I had stayed in the Military and taken advantage of free healthcare in their hospitals, etc.

I would be nearing retirement in a few years if I had, and maintained all those benefits.

Even though I have good health care coverage, I need to move on in my career, and that is the one thing that scares the living shit out of me.

I will this afternoon most likely.

I'm in the mood to watch the sunset on a beach somewhere though. So I may make a whole trip of it.

Holy shit, I could be eating smooth, firm, yogurt on the beach or something as the sun sets. That shit would be hot.

If you'd stayed in the military, you'd probably be dead. What good is free healthcare then? And perhaps their medical benefits are OK, but their mental healthcare leaves much to be desired. We have an epidemic of soldiers comitting suicide after coming home from Iraq that no one seems to want to talk about, not to mention the post tramatic stress, anxiety, depression etc. that are going un or under treated.

I'm glad you left the military. hug

You all need to see the micheal moore documentary about him that was unauthorized and not manipulated/edited by him!

It shows how much of a craftsman he is, and even documents how he will make up fictional stuff/correlations to spice up the narrative flow of his film, and he admits he is making movies, not true documentaries.

The Michigan town that he featured in his debut film hate him for his fictionalized/shaped documentary style.

He is a genius creative force though!

Again if the end result is increased dialogue and us getting more active in trying to change things I'm ok with this even with the above facts.

I mean, it's better than making up lies about WMDs to invade a country and bog us down in a civil war. shrug
