I broke down after seeing Sicko I was fine until I got in the car, and I just broke down. Now, I'm not usually very emotional. I had a really strange reaction to this movie. I felt ashamed to be in this country, and I wanted to move. I've got a massive medical bill that I am slowly paying off, and I have insurance.
Anyone else seen this movie? What did you think about it?

I have quite strong personal feelings regarding the very flawed health system over there, to do with my past.. of course I will be seeing this film and no doubt it will be upsetting, but at least it will probably not tell me anything I don't already know.
ps... sorry to be a shot of misery, but whatever criticisms of the guy some might have, I am glad Michael Moore at least sheds light on such things and makes them more noticeable to the general public. . [Edited 6/30/07 7:44am]

That reminds me of a song: Artist/Band: Earle Steve Lyrics for Song: The Revolution Starts Now Lyrics for Album: Revolution Starts Now I was walkin’ down the street In the town where I was born I was movin’ to a beat That I’d never felt before So I opened up my eyes And I took a look around I saw it written ‘cross the sky The revolution starts now Yeah, the revolution starts now The revolution starts now When you rise above your fear And tear the walls around you down The revolution starts here Where you work and where you play Where you lay your money down What you do and what you say The revolution starts now Yeah the revolution starts now Yeah the revolution starts now In your own backyard In your own hometown So what you doin’ standin’ around? Just follow your heart The revolution starts now Last night I had a dream That the world had turned around And all our hopes had come to be And the people gathered ‘round They all brought what they could bring And nobody went without And I learned a song to sing The revolution starts now

I left for Canada in August! C'mon up! I'll throw a couple more burgers (or veggie burgers) on the grill!
I saw the movie yesterday. Of course, Moore's argument and examples were near-completely one-sided, his depictions of international healthcare approaches were almost totally without any substantive critiques and his droning, Sally Strutheresque lament/narrative drove me NUTS. But he does a great job at driving home the point that the current U.S. system is screwing too many working, contributing, responsible people. Moving stuff... and, as always, pretty funny where it needs to be. My guess is his one-sidedness is going to leave a LOT of room for rivals to come in and mount counterarguments based, like Moore's, largely on anecdotes, horror stories and social ideology. (When what we truly need is to debate logistics and cost.) But Sicko is definitely going to fuel the conversation, and that's a fantastic first step. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

You all need to see the micheal moore documentary about him that was unauthorized and not manipulated/edited by him!
It shows how much of a craftsman he is, and even documents how he will make up fictional stuff/correlations to spice up the narrative flow of his film, and he admits he is making movies, not true documentaries. The Michigan town that he featured in his debut film hate him for his fictionalized/shaped documentary style. He is a genius creative force though! My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I'd be DEAD if it were not for the health system in Ireland, imagine me in the US...they'd ask for a credit card before i'd even be let in the door. "Waiting to be banned"

they treat you and bill you later as long as you have an employer and health insurance here. You should know that I know that! We have some of the best (quality and latest knowledge) care possible here in the US if you are employed and have health insurance. I live near Houston's medial center which, through evil oil money, is world reknown as a center of quality health care. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
