I think everyone should be spayed and neutered just like cats and dogs. There's enough people in the world.

That's a bit drastic. And if everyone was spayed and neutered, the world population would die off completely. lol

So then do it for 10 years. Too many stupid people breed anyway. Maybe couples should undergo numerous tests to see if they are fit to be parents before they go ahead and get knocked up, collect welfare, and let their kids run around undisciplined!

I think too many people feel pressured into it or just think it's what they are supposed to do. There is no reason someone has to have kids if they don't want. And, it's nobody's business either. People don't owe anyone an explanation as to why they don't have kids.

Yes there are a lot of people that probably should not have had children, but I still think the "everyone should be spayed or neutered" idea is a bit drastic. It's a personal decision. I love my kids dearly and wanted them before they were born. There are times when I wish I could just get up and go and do what I wanted, but I sacrifice things b/c I had kids--and I wouldn't change it for the world. I enjoy being a mom.

It was also sarcasm!!!!

Obviously everyone can't be. Heck I asked my doctor to tie my tubes and she won't do it! She says that some day I may want to have children. I'm 30 now, and she's right, some day I might...but if she ties my tubes now then it won't even be an issue!! I'm too old and selfish to have kids.

I agree..I enjoy being a mother also, as I have 2 children of my own and 4 step children ( and in Sept) I'll be a grandma whistling..and I wouldn't trade any of it. But as me and my girls discuss the possibilities of their children as they get older, one of my girls, doesn't want to have children, she says it' partly because of how screwed up over all society is, and too she sees the struggles that we face in making sure that our children are cared for and the things we as parents give up or do without so that our children can have and do what they want, and she doesn't want to do that..She wants to live her life for her..is that selfish? At this point I don't think so. I think it would be more selfish if she were to actually have children and then not be responsible for them.. lol

Yes, have kids is hard and yes it requires sacrifice, but isn't anything worthwhile hard and requiring of sacrifice? I think so. Even if we're talking about a career. If you have a career there are going to times where it is really hard and stressful. There are going to be aspects about it that you don't like. There are going to have to be sacrifices that are made. If you have a job you can't just drop it to do what you want. My point is that no matter what we choose to do in life it will involve struggle, stress, and sacrifice. That's life. It's just a matter of choosing what appeals to you. To each their own. biggrin

My Mom frowns when I tell her I don't want kids. My dad tells me to have a son so he can inherit his boat neutral I tell them not to hold their breath. If I have a child it'll be when I'm having a mid life crisis, I'll find some poor bastard to donate and then I'll travel with my kid around the world and live a carefree life.

Of course that won't happen. I'll be married and divorced 3 times and be a cat lady on the porch in my rocking chair scaring the neighborhood children...which Prince cranked of course.

Don't cave to the pressure!!! (of your parents) They don't have to raise the child. You do. Society needs to back off of the idea that once you reach a certain age you should get married and have kids. If people were left alone and allowed to just be who they truly are we'd have a lot less unwanted kids out there.

TRUE, I think I was saying that if she knows she wants to do something else with her time (job, travel or whatever), it's good that she knows that it would be a sacrifice..

You didn't personally call me out by name, but on the first page you made a comment about free love and I then stated about the disease thing. Someone else quoted me and said "exactly". The very next post is you saying, "Good Lord people." Since, I didn't want to assume things I very simply asked what you were talking about. Then you proceeded to quote me again and in that post you said that all of your orgers were mature and savvy enough to realize that you were joking. Since you quoted me I felt you were speaking to me. You are right, it is hard sometimes to tell if someone is joking or not on the internet. You can't see inside a person's mind or see their facial expressions. I just wish you didn't get so smart aleck-y and say that some of us aren't mature or savvy enough to understand you. That is a contradiction to your statement that it is hard to know if someone is joking or not. If it is hard for you to tell, then why wouldn't it be hard for me or anyone else for that matter.

Anyway, I am not here to try and offend anyone or purposely make people feel bad, but I'm going to speak my mind when I feel someone is not understanding me. So, it's cool. I hope you have a great day.

of course...he's entitled to his opinion. you dont need kids to feel fulfilled or complete...even though your parents MAY drum this into your head. dont believe it.
yes, its a scary world...but what is life if you dont take chances? if you dont have kids you "may" be lonely in your senior yrs & have no one to take care of you. talk to you, run errands, pay your bills..I did all of this for my mum till she passed.
i guess im saying this is a tough decision..think hard about it. neutral

Exactly .. I totally agree .. having children is not for everybody ..
if someone says they dont want kids.. I totally understand it .. it's their life and folks should mind their business...

(off subject alittle) I've seen females (and I mean .. females plural) who have given birth, who should have NEVER given birth to children, because of the abuse they've done to their kids (mentally), mistreat their kids (physically), leave them with other ppl to raise them & leave their kids for a man.. (this 'female' i know literally put her 2 sons (10 & 14) out .. for a man).. so.. ppl gotta ask themselves are they really prepared for the journey..(that is not for everyone.. just saying these type situations in life exist) ...
