I dont want to have children...

...because current society is too dangerous to bring up a child in. A friend of mine said he met someone who said this. Is this fair do you think?

I think any reason for not wanting to have children is "fair". We're overpopulated enough as a planet as it is.

As for being too dangerous a society? That's not gonna change by not having kids, you just won't have to deal with thinking about it. And sure, that can be fair.

If that is their real reason then fine, that is as good a reason as any. Sometimes people use this as an excuse when they don't want to have children for other reasons. Or sometimes, sadly, it's because they can't have children but really don't want to get into it.

its no more dangerous than its ever been, its just reported more nowadays.

In medieval times you kill whoever you liked, just by dressing up as a werewolf. And there was the plague, and that. Ok, you get muggers and stuff these days, but no-one really dresses up as a werewolf anymore, and they've got medicine for the plague.

Test the water by having one kid, JD, if mothing happens to it, have a few more.

Why do you need an excuse/reason at ALL for not wanting kids?

Of course it's fair. I wouldn't bring a child into this stinking, greedy, racist, corrupt world we live in. Also, raising a child is an enormous responsibility that I don't want.

It just annoys me society considers you "weird" for not wanting children.

I was about to post the same exact thing. biggrin

Was there some window in the 50's in which having a kid was a perfect time because things were safe and the entertainment industry was wholesome?

Life sucks. It always has. People aren't any better or worse than they ever have been, there are just more of them. biggrin

Carrie's right though, there are enough people on the planet now and they're living too long anyway. No one HAS to have kids. But people getting older have always thought the planet was getting worse, from ancient times to present day. Whenever my grandpa sees two teenagers walking down the street, he thinks the town is being taken over by gangs. confused

I can't think of a single good reason to have kids. If I didn't have any right now, I would not bring any into this world. There may have never really been a time that was a god time to have kids but I don't ever think we've been worse off.

The world was crazy back in the 50's 60's 70's etc... I'm glad my parents didn't feel that way about procreating and i don't have a problem with having kids in this day in time... you just protect them as much as you can and hope for the best...I for one can't imagine life without my little one.

I have 2 sons ages 7 and 4 and I'm glad I had them and don't regret my decision. I always knew I wanted kids. HOWEVER, I actually clapping clapping clapping people that are mature enough to not have kids if they don't want them. I think too many people feel pressured into it or just think it's what they are supposed to do. There is no reason someone has to have kids if they don't want. And, it's nobody's business either. People don't owe anyone an explanation as to why they don't have kids.

no, I don't... every time (current or past) has their own issues. It's not like things just got bad or horrible, there has always been good and bad through time and in life and living.

hug Just b/c I have them doesn't mean that I think everyone should. It is such a private and personal decision. I obviously don't get the rude questions about why I don't have kids, but I do get the constant, "Don't you want a little girl?" I'm always like, "Uh, no. I love my boys. I don't want a third ANYTHING. Girl, boy, dog, or cat." I physically can't have more kids, but even if I could I wouldn't. The way I see it I totally lucked out b/c I'll never have to deal with periods, teen girl attitude, or paying for a wedding. lol

I'd also like to say that I don't get why people have more kids to try and get a certain sex. My first son almost died when he was born, so I am always of the opinion that people should just be happy to have healthy kids.

I think everyone should be spayed and neutered just like cats and dogs. There's enough people in the world.

That's a bit drastic. And if everyone was spayed and neutered, the world population would die off completely. lol

Free love is always there.

You just have to take responsible precautions. Now if everyone believed they could fuck and not run the risk of - getting/getting someone else - pregnant, what about all the STI's they would contract?
It is no difefrent to today.
