I'm sorry but Nick is one of those folks that rounds out the whole "org experience" for me I love that you would do that. Add in the Smiths t-shirt, your comedy and ability to be a source of comedy for me, and you're like the perfect orger for me. I come here for you, but then also I come here for me because you're here and you're my favourite material.

Trent's quite subversive for a teen idol, I'll give him that. When I was your age the kids liked Nirvana, Soundgarden and Smashing Pumpkins. It's music to look fondly upon later on, but only with a sentimental smile. It's not lasting or possessing any genuine social significance. Some of the music's alright though.

(incidentally, I'm seeing the Smashing Pumpkins at Reading this august...right after NIN ) Granted Stevie gets more kudos, but NIN aren't exactly massively accessible these days...whereas Stevie's music sounds like videogames sounds from the early 90s. Good, easy stuff. I kid..I quite like Steve and his sunnies, although I can't relate to him on any level. I'm a depressed british white teenager. He's a blind old fatty who's permanently high on life.

He's a blind old fatty who's permanently high on life. Yeah, now he's a middle-aged, wonderfully well-meaning millionaire with all the old talent but no idea how to produce himself so as to been even close to having his finger on the pulse. 70s Stevie is socially aware, innovative, soulful and funky though. I don't actually mind the NIN I've heard (some, I even like! ), but I do see a potential there for them to end up not being all that significant, and that's not even to do with the quality of the music (which I'm not really even in a position to comment on). The way I see it, they're inexorably tied to a cultural phase, to a fashion, to a certain way of thinking just as inexorably tied to teenagers, that they'd need some serious repeated reinvention and longevity to become a really important band people come back to again and again down the line. Seems like Trent Reznor's got a bit about him and a fair few strings to his bow, so what do I know? Maybe they'll do just that. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm sure you'll tell me.
