Any gamers on here?

I still like to play, ever since pong. I don't know if I can ever completely give it up. Anyone else? My current rig:

the mess of wires is from me having to jack everything up when my cable modem went bad. I'm moving soon, so I'm too lazy to put it all back.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Man that thing is a $600 doorstop. The only thing it is good for right now is Folding at Home.

http://folding.stanford.edu/

If any of you orgers have computers on all day (and I know you do) or an idle PS3 you should read that link and then join my folding team if you want. Drop me an orgnote and I'll give you the team number!

pfffft you need at least an SSL 9048 to get me hot. Either that or the SSL AWS 900+. Or maybe the Digidesign Icon console.

I'm a PC gamer myself. However, if the upcoming Marvel Comics MMORPG is console only, I'll probably get whichever system it's released for (I've heard the 360 is getting the Marvel MMORPG, while the PS3 is getting the DC one tho it could change)

You don't love your PS3? I want one so bad, but I just can't justify the expense yet.
I play 360 (Oblivion mostly). I played Wii for a while until I was done with Zelda and haven't touched it since. I may get that new "Potter" game out today though. Seems like it would be cool on the Wii.
I like shooters and rpgs. Except for Oblivion there hasn't been any great rpgs for 360 yet.

There's just no games for it yet. I played Resistance, which was good for a launch title, and I play MLB baseball. That's it until maybe Ninja Gaiden Sigma. I'm waiting for Metal Gear, which was supposed to be done this summer, but is nowhere on the horizon yet.

Video game addiction a mental illness?
Posted: 26 June 2007 1028 hrs

Photos 1 of 1

Excessive gaming has been linked to increased aggressive and violent behaviour.

CHICAGO: It may seem an obvious diagnosis for parents, but video games might not actually be addictive, the American Medical Association says.

A report recommending that internet and video gaming addiction be considered a mental disorder was watered down after a heated debate broke out among delegates at the association's annual convention in Chicago.

Some questioned whether there was enough scientific evidence to support claims that excessive game playing is similar to pathological gambling.

Others insisted on more study before advising that parents include video games in a recommended one- to two-hour limit on "screen time."

The report, prepared for the nation's largest doctors group, cited a wealth of studies showing the harm caused by excessive gaming.

It has been linked to increased aggressive and violent behavior.

It can provoke epileptic seizures - one study put the risk at 1.5 per 100,000 children - and is associated with increased metabolic rates and repetitive strain injuries.

And - as any parent can tell you - it can distract children from their homework and make them withdraw from their families.

Researchers in Britain found that 12 percent of gamers were "addicted" according to World Health Organization criteria, and researchers in the United States have found that as many as 10 to 15 percent of gamers are affected by "overuse" the report noted.

"However, as with findings on long-term aggression, there is currently insufficient research to conclude that video game overuse is an addiction," the report concluded.

The issue will go before the full association later this week.

The revised recommendation is to warn parents and health care professionals about the potential dangers of gaming and to pass the edited report along to the American Psychiatric Association, which is in the process of updating the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

"Addiction is a complex disease," the committee declared, "formal recognition of problem gaming via online/video sources as representing true addictive illness is premature."

Classifying video game addiction as a mental disorder could affect whether insurance companies would pay for treatment and give doctors guidelines on treatment and prescribing medication. - AFP/fa

Yeah, that's why I haven't gotten one. I really just want either an HD or Blu-Ray video player. But word is that HD is losing the format war and will eventually go the way of Beta, but Blu-Ray players are so damned expensive! Might as well buy a PS3 if you want to watch Blu-Ray.

Blu-Ray is great, but all the stores around me still sell them at retail. I'm not paying double the price just for HD, especially with an upconverting HDMI DVD player. Now Amazon is running alot of HD titles for $20 which is alot better.

They also have the Toshiba HD-A2 player for $250 and you get 7 more HD-DVDs. That's half price before the free discs.

Been gaming since the Pong/Space Invaders days. I still have my old Colecovision, Atari 7800/2600 & Sega Genesis/32X systems. I have PS2, but I plan on buying PS3 for two reasons - Grand Theft Auto IV & Tekken 6. Those GTAIV screenshots are sick!

I also play Unreal Tournament on my PC(Game of the Year edition).
