I graduated with my Master Degree in Social Work in May. I always wanted to work with abused children and adult survivors of abuse, but unfortunately couldn't find a job close to me doing that right now. But I interviewed for a job as a hospice social worker, and lo and behold they actually hired me! I was really impressed with them when I interviewed with them and am really looking forward to this job. Today is my first day on the job. I keep wondering, am I up for this??? Anyway, wish me luck that I don't trip over my heels, make some wrong comment at the wrong time, or any other such calamity that can befall one on their first day at work. Since I've never worked with hospice patients and their families before, I'm just a wee bit nervous, like I barely slept last night kind of nervous. Well, here goes nothing!

Thank you again to everyone! Today went great and I really think I am going to do okay with this type of work. We basically went over the type of paper work I will have to fill out for each patient and what my duties will be. Tomorrow we'll go over all the human resource stuff and then on Friday I'll start shadowing another social worker and start meeting some of my clients. There is a lot of paperwork that has to be completed (which totally amazed me the amount of paperwork they have to do at hospice) but I've always enjoyed writing. (As if you all can't tell that. ) I'm very tired because sitting in a chair all day with no breaks and only a 1/2 an hour to run out and get lunch and bring it back so that we could finish up everything today just wore me out.
