Do tornadoes scare you?

I think that tornadoes are my most feared natural disaster...moreso than earthquakes, floods, blizzards and tsunamis.

Which is why I could NEVER live anywhere near "tornado alley"

...can you tell that I'm watching a "tornado" special on the Weather Channel???

The idea of tornadoes is scary.

Yep, tornadoes scare me. I've seen the aftermaths of a couple of them that were in our area and it was pretty awful.

You do know they can happen anywhere don't you? eek

nod Actually...the idea of me being sound asleep and suddenly the house around me blows apart and I'm thrown into a field 2 miles away is what really scares me.

Very true. In the news witnesses describe the tornado sounding like a loud train coming at them.

saw one form the other day--as we were driving towards it. Bout peed my pants.
SERIOUSLY--scary crap!

But it crossed the road and fizzled out. Thank God.

oh, and not in tornado alley, either. Lived in T.A. for years and had not seen a tornado form before. Or a tornado for that matter....'cept when I was little.

I was at my Grandma's house in Roseville for the Roseville Tornado of 1981 and that was insane and scary. Her house was mostly spared but nearly every house in the neighborhood was gone. Usually being within miles of a major city you are safe but not always. The path went form Edina to Roseville...scary.

I can still feel that pressure from the 200 mph winds.

Here is a link to a story about it.

It's weird. I feel like they happen all the time here, but never quite exactly where I am, so they don't scare me really, no. I've seen a few, I've seen the sky go green, etc.

Tornadoes are scary, though i have never been through it or seen it close, living here in NYC that is not on the list of things that could really happen, wont say they cant, but not a good chance. Earthquakes are my big fear, because you have no clue when or where it could happen, and believe it or not NYC is right on the line for one and even more than LA. Earthquakes can do no damage or more than anything ever, theres no real time limit on them, you cant really detect if one is coming, where as a Tornado you do have warnings that one could form.

NO...and I pray that I never NEED to.
Because on any given workday, the major arteries leading in & out of Long Island can become clogged in a heartbeat.
So, let's say that there's a tsunami or major hurricane heading towards us...there would be no way for me to evacuate in a timely fashion.
I would have to make my way towards the higher parts of the island and pray.

Evacuations and the way people act during them are no joke.

I do too. I'd love to see a tornado up close and personal, but I live in a fantasy world sometimes, so I'm sure it wouldn't be as thrilling as the movie Twister.
