The episode was just OK i felt anyway.. I missed parts but Buffy is showing Dawn how to "slay"...Somehow i feel it is leaning towards Dawn being the new slayer.. and i think eventually Sarah Michelle Gellar is going to leave the show and Dawn will be taking Buffy's place.
Spike has a soul again and in some ways being taunted like when he was "William".(We got to see a lot of the old cast again)... I have to say thought, i think i am digging James Marsters new hair though.. somethign different instead of that bleached blond dried out straw he calls hair...
Anyway Sunnydale High is back up and rebuilt and haunted by the people that were killed there during the "Granduation" episode. And guess what DAWN ATTENDS THERE NOW!! And Buffy felt somehow that she needs to insepct it out.. she knows no good is there.. I missed some parts after this.. so i dont' know what happened yawn
Anya is a vengence demon again in full force and is trying to hide that she has/had feelings for Xander, as being just a summer fling.
Willow is still recovering from losing Tara and Giles is comforting her and trying to keep her in check.(I wasn't sure if she was in some sort of recovery "Betty Ford" like place..
I didn't think it was all that great an episode, but it wasnt' the worst. Next week looks pretty good...I think Buffy becomes a guidance counsleor or something in the school...
I hope some of this helps.. Sorry i wasn't paying more attention to specifics.. sad But you may be able to go onto the UPN website and check out the Buffy show guide.. it might have a recap!!

dawn is attending her first year of sunnydale high. her first day she and two other 'misfit' types are attacked by spirits animated by the evil shape shifting entity through use of a magic talisman. buffy and xander ultimately vanquish said spirits by snapping the magic talisman which powers the spirits but this attack is obviously a mere warning shot across buffy's, so to speak, 'prow'. buffy is recruited to work at sunnydale high a couple of days a week as a counselor by the new high school principal, a charming african american dude whose name escapes me.

willow is in england, recuperating from her madness of last season and working toward rehabilitation with giles and an english coven. she is still very powerful, but is not being punished - rather is being re-educated about basic magics (earth).

anya is waffling between her human feelings and her return to being a vengeance demon. her friend warns anya that 'seomthing is rising' from the hellm outh over which both the old high school and the new highschool have been built. clearl across the world in england, willow feels this 'something' rising, too.

spike is back - cursed with the return of his soul. it's not clear what role he'll play this season but he appears to be at the mercy/under the control of an evil entity.

it looks like buffy's arch enemy for this season will be this shape-shifting evil entity who has the ability to assume the form (and use the powers of) all of buffy's prior enemies over the last few years (the master vampire, drusilla, the evil goddess, the cyber demon, the mayor of sunnydale, the ne-er do well inventor from last season).

because, the very last scene features a shot of the shape shifter turning into buffy herself.

i'm just wondering when dawn will develop her powers. i mean, why go to the trouble of creating a human out of pure energy if she can't use that force?

ah yes. buffy smile love that show.

anyone catch smallville? that rocks too

To expound upon what Silkspread established, Buffy was offered a job as a part time counselor for the troubled school kids by the new principle, who seems a bit mysterious. Whether he will be an ally, or enemy remains to be seen (Xander noted that the new school's office for the principal is located directly above the Hellmouth, where the old library used to be).

Giles has taken Willow to England where she is being trained by him and a coven of powerful witches. Naturally, they are a bit concerned about her, what with her having tried to destroy the world and all. Giles has explained to her that she cannot just turn her power off. She is now tied into the magical energies of the earth itself, so she'd best learn to control her abilities.

Dawn and two other kids, both anti-social types, were attacked by materialised spirits of people whom Buffy wasn't able to save. During Buffy's search of the basement of the school for Dawn, she found the newly ensouled Spike. Apparently, Spike isn't adapting too well to having a soul, and it is driving him a bit mad. Spike hips Buffy to the fact that the materialised spirits have to have been brought about by a talisman of some sort. Buffy contacts Xander, who then finds and destroys the talisman. The question remains as to who created the talisman, and why.

Much of the episode made mention that something very old was stirring in Sunnydale. Willow senses it all the way in England, and she fears that the Hellmouth is about to open, unleashing a greater evil than anything they have yet faced. The episode concludes with Spike, rambling down in the basement, being confronted by...well, something. Whatever the thing is, it shape-shifts into all of Buffy's big-bads from past seasons. When it finally takes the form of the Master, it tells Spike that he is going to take Buffy "all the way back to the beginning" (whatever that means). The final form the shifter takes, right as the episode ends, is of Buffy.

All in all, a decent episode. The tone is a bit lighter than last season, but there is still the sense that something really bad is on the horizon (which has always been a staple of Buffy). It appears as if we are going to see quite a bit of character development for Willow this year, and Dawn is set to evolve beyond her sniveling little whine-fests of the last two seasons. The relationship between Buffy and Dawn has greatly improved, with them actually behaving like sisters. Buffy is training Dawn, which of course leads to speculation that she will get her own spin-off next season (with, perhaps, Willow as her Watcher?). Next year, Dawn will be the same age Buffy was when the show began, and the two new characters introduced in this episode could certainly fill the Xander & Willow tyoe roles. Of course, this leads to the question as to how Dawn can be a Slayer, when Slayers are born into the role, not just trained. Well, we must keep in mind that Dawn was created from Buffy's blood (which is why she was able to take the place of "the Key" and close the portal two seasons ago), so that just may explain it. It is interesting to note that, upon Buffy's death, no new Slayer was activated. Was this because of Dawn containing a bit of the Slayer essence? Does being created from Buffy automatically give her the Slayer powers? Hmmm...guess we'll just have to wait and see!

i'm just hoping they kill her off. maybe the character wouldn't be so annoying if they had a girl that could act playing her.

Yeah, it's a good show, but I'm a little pissed at Mr Whedon, Y'see, I was gonna guest star on an episode a few years ago, but he decided to go with Dracula instead. Puh-leeeze! Drac is sooo overrated! Heck, he out-and-out sucks! You want a classic monster that isn't overused? Look no further than yours truly! C'mon, Drac and the Wolfman only come out at night, and Frankenstein's Monster has the I.Q. of an icecube! Go Gillman, baby!

Damn, I was really looking foward to carrying off Sarah Michele Gellar to my lair. Of course, I would have had to devour that doofus Freddie Prinz Jr's brains first, but I could deal with a small snack like that.

Since nobody else mentioned it ... The show opened with a girl being chased and killed in Istanbul by what looked to be ninja or medjai warriors or something.

Taking out 15 minutes for commercials, there was about 12 minutes of interesting plot development and 35 minutes of bullsh*t.
