DESPERATE COMPUTER HELP WANTED - VOLUME PROBLEM!!!!

I have my music system connected 2 my computer and I usually play all music on my computer through that with my headphones, anyway, I have been downloading loads and loads of Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac stuff and recently I have nearly all of the Say You Will concerts, either on CD or still left on my computer!!

Anyway, what I am asking is that the playbacks of the stuff still on my computer just isnt loud enough for me, particularly for the last song, World Turning, which can moreorless last for near enough 1/2 hour!! And also for Edge Of Seventeen on Stevies solo concerts, which can also last for about 1/2 hour give or take!!

The thing is, are there any computer guys on here that would know how I can enhance and improve the volume on my computer??? Do u guys know of any programmes that will increase the volume on the computer??

Thanks!! I AM SO DESPERATE!!!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

ERM.

DO other files play at normal volume?

You may need an audio program to enhance the .mp3 file rather than the system sound itself. confuse

Is this just a problem with a few select tracks or all of the soun you play through your computer???

If it's just a few select tracks, iTunes has a feature where you can manually increase the volume on certain songs or have the software go through and 'average out' the volume on your entire collection.

This is a known problem. over the years you can see the volumes of albums going up and up. Things from the 80s sound so low compared to them. It has to do with two things:
1 - psychologically, the louder a song sounds on the radio, the better rating it gets, so record companies are trying to boost the volume as much as possible.

2 - The technology today allows us to get to a higher volume level with less damage to the mix.

There are many audio programs that will be able to adjust the volumes, but none of the automatic ones will do a good enough job, because they will basically take the peak level and boost it up to 0db. But peak level doesn't mean average volume, so it could still stay low.

Try using iTunes for example. It has a feature that can balance the volumes of your songs, and remember which volume to play each song.

The programs that boost the volumes are using a feature/effect called Normalize. So try and google "audio normalizers" or "Batch audio normalizer"

The sound is like night and day depending on the track and setting.

I like Wimp sort of. The music recognition thingy kicks butt.

But it's a media player with the memory stamp of Autocad or AutoMap.

I just don't love all Trent's music anymore. He's actually still one of my favorite singer/songwriters. I think he's just going through his symbol years or something. shrug

Year Zero did not grow well on me. It started off interesting enough minus a few tracks. And I liked it immediately better than the last two albums.

But I took Spooky's comments about The Fragile (an album I used to loathe) to heart and listened to it again. I actually like the Fragile better than Year Zero now. lol
