Why - It's a perfect GD topic ( too )

I mentioned the one ALREADY in P&R so that this one could stay here rolleyes

Anyway I think it's foolish to have a ZERO touching rule in schools

peace!

I would NOT want my children attending a school that they could not hug teammates or highfive or run down the feild after a game arm in arm celebrating

I just can not imagine getting a loving hug from a friend when you bomb a test ot loose a compitition ...or get an A+ or win a state playoff game...

I'm assuming it's about protecting the SCHOOL, not the students...as in lawsuits.

It has to be.

WellInever

Schools can limit students expression if there is a good reason. Like they can have dress codes or rules about hair styles as to avoid disrupting the educational process. But a Hug in the hallway between classes has zero to do with the process. So the school is going to have a hard time defending this rule. Hugs, holding hands, and other similar forms of contact are expressions and thus fall under 1st Amendment protection. And students have the rights, as long as there is not disruption. Hugs are not disruptive.

Good point. Yet, they can not use that as a reason to violate the rights of the students. I wonder if they did not make this rule knowing it would be over turned in court so they could say "well we tried" as a defence. Which will not work either.
