A Different Type Of Interviewing Experience....

As some of you know, I am currently in the Charlotte, North Carolina area looking for a job. I went to an employment agency where they did something I had never heard of before. The employment agency has you do a little 1-3 minute video clip of yourself. On the video, you introduce yourself, tell them which position(s) you are interested in/applying for, tell them what your skills are, and say what your proudest accomplishment is. It was soooo strange to see myself on the computer screen as I was taping it. I'm not sure how many times I wound up playing the video back and deleting it, because I either didn't like how I smiled or I didn't like how I said something. lol Luckily, I was able to rerecord it as many times as I wanted, since I wanted to be sure to make a good impression. Apparently, the job agency sends the video to prospective employers along with your resume and other information. The man that I spoke to at the job agency told me that employers love it, because they get to see the person before they actually meet with them. The company that is hiring gets to see you and gets to know your personality a little bit before they have the agency arrange to meet with you.

Has anybody ever heard of this or gone to a job agency that did this? I had never heard of it before, but when I told my brother about it, he said that he had heard about it. I guess it's the latest and greatest interviewing technique. I don't think they use it in Ohio, but I'm willing to bet that in the next year or two, all of the job agencies will be using this introductory video concept.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Thanks. Yeah, it made me self-conscious too. It was the strangest thing I'd ever experienced in my life.

comfort I know what you mean. When I was sitting in front of the computer monitor, I could see myself on there moving around, even before I pressed "record". I was feeling silly and was making goofy faces at myself. lol Thank God none of the employment agency employees walked in while I was doing it and caught me in the act. boxed lol

ok...so i moved to the QC (charlotte) almost a year ago...10 months. been working full time 6 of them months. All i can say is..join groups and get active. It has been a lot harder to "get onn the inside" in this city. I "re-joined" NABFEME (the conf is coming to QC www.nabfeme.org) and signed up for some other work as well.

Network your ass off. I work in media and entertainment and this city is nothing like Raleigh-Durham was 2 and half hours away.

I am re-evaluating my choices. Working in a sales job in a city where i'm really not connected. I have to really find a niche out here and haven't really rolled into it yet.

Can we say growing pains? at 30? wink
