My mother-in-law says "stuttin" all the time. I'm not even sure how you would spell it.

"He aint stuttin her." Translation: He's not thinking about her.

My sister put "PO" on the board...
Me:...that's not a word..
Her: Yeah it is...
Me: what the hell is "PO"? Use it in a sentence
Her: *grumble* I don't have any money, so I be PO
Me: *throws board across the room*
lol
Oh yeah, I say "finna" an awful lot for someone not from the south

I've heard this one, too. I think it's probably spelled "stud'in," as it's actually a derivative of "studying."

I think "stole" is a funny one... not as in "that kid stole a pack of bubblegum," but "the guy was talking trash and got stole!"

It means getting punched or hit really hard! lol

Another one is conversate, as in "I'm gonna go over here and conversate with this female." There is no such word as conversate. The proper word is converse.

Incidentally, it drive me nuts to hear people use female as a noun, too. It's an adjective! It could be used in a substantive sense, but probably most appropriately only when referencing an animal.

"Nairn" is a another good one. It means "not (even) one" and is often used as part of a double negative.

Example: "You haven't eaten your dinner yet, so you better not get nairn cookie!"

One word that is ghetto, but shouldn't be is "amn't" in reference to oneself in the singular. It's an interogative contraction of "am I not" which would be better than the gramatically incorrect "aren't."

Example: "I'm really cute, aren't I?"

But it SHOULD be...

"I'm really cute, amn't I?"

I've heard linguists say that many young kids actually use this intuitively. But, of course, they stop because popular English prefers the incorrect alternative.

"Thirsty" is a funny one. It means desperate -- like one stranded in a desert.

A girl might say of a guy who likes her: "That guy at the mall was sooooo thirsty! He kept asking me for my phone number." smile

Another ghetto colloquialism that I think is actually pretty clever is the use of the verb "to be" to express a sort of perpetuality -- as in "he be trying to win the lottery." I think it's more expressive than the correct "he tries to win the lottery," as it explicitly suggests the subject has existed in a particular state in the past, does in the present and will into the undetermined future. It's so existentially efficient! lol

I think "proper" English used to accommodate this use of the verb -- mostly in poetic or lyrical uses -- but fell away from it, first as archaic, then downright low brow.
