i think i'll pop a cork or 10!! just got notification that one of my grants was approved - $100,000 for a new transitional housing facility for women and children!!

it's a new facility that will house up to 18 women and children who would otherwise face homelessness. they will receive training, counseling, etc. for up to 6 months, at which point the goal is for them to be self-sufficient. it's a great program, and i'm excited to be a part of it. | |

to answer some of your questions: the money goes toward a total annual budget of just over $300,000, so there's still a lot to do. in terms of my fees - i have a flat fee and a base + contingency option. but the money can't come from the grant itself, it has to come from unrestricted funds. i work strictly for nonprofits (some nobler than others  ) - if anybody tells you about government grants to start your own business or to renovate your house - it's BS. individuals do not qualify for grants, with some exceptions for high-end scientists, etc.
the house will be fab - maybe not abfab, but fab!  (in other words, no Bolli fridge!)
