This should be interesting

My 11-year-old daughter Sydney is attending Camp Jam this week. The concept is cool - real rockers teach youngsters how to be in rock bands. The kids all form bands, learn a song and put on a concert at the end of the week.

My daughter is the youngest one there. It looks like all the other kids are serious headbangers, whereas my daughter is a cross between Candy Dulfer and Hannah Montana. But, as Hannah would say, she's got nerve.

Sydney blew them away in her audition (vocalist), and got put in a band with four teenage boys. They're so cool that they have no bass player, just three lead guitarists and a drummer. At least, I think that's supposed to be cool.

They chose their song yesterday. The selection list was all rock, of course - unfortunately, no Prince. Even though the vocalist is a girl, the band did not choose Avril Lavigne's "SK8TR BOI". No, they went in a completely different direction.

On Friday night, my daughter is going to be singing Ozzy Osbourne's "Bark at the Moon".

To add to the fun, I'm downloading a tab of it right now so I can play it for her during the evenings if she so desires. And darn it - I already knew how to play "SK8TR BOI"!

Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.

Don't Talk About It, Be About It!

I will be in full Dad-video mode, you can bet on that!

She doesn't play sax, Candy was the only Prince protgee that seemed to fit, looks-wise. Syd plays piano, got selected to be a percussionist in the 6th grade band, and wants to learn how to play guitar.
