Wednesday night I stayed in at a friends house who had Central Air..
come the next day and I have the WORST sore throat and head cold ever!

Now, It's Sunday and I still feel like shit.
and no, it's not from anything else. It's from Sleeping in Central Air because I don't have it and the dryness gave me a cold..


It's TERRIBLE! I want to cut off my head!
Anyone else that can't sleep in Central Air without getting a nasty multiple day cold?

Man I live in hot ass Georgia- I CAN'T live without it! It's 10:30 and 100 outside!

i have a window unit and it keeps my little apartment nice and crispy. i don't like it to get TOO cold, though. that's when, yeah, i get AC-induced colds, and summer colds suck.

I have an air conditioner.. and Fans.

much different from central air.. i mean, it takes a few to get the WHOLE house cool.. but atleast it doesnt make me sick!

Can I cut ur head off 4 u?

I really prefer non tempered air. It effects me in ways that make me uncomfortable

It get's hot as hell here and humid as well

I'm lost. What's the difference between A/C and Central Air?


I have an air conditioner that has a a fan unit on the outside of the house, and a unit inside my house. It's all controlled from a single panel and cools the entire house. I have no clue where the thermostat is that senses when to turn on or off the unit to keep at at a certain temperature, but this seems like Central Air to me, right?


You can not live without A/C in Tampa. You just can't. It can be dangerous.
I leave the house at 77 degrees in the day though--I can't stand to be cold. But my roommate likes it 72/73 degrees to sleep in.


I don't notice any issues with geting colds or sick from it. I do crack my window alot though.

Damn we run ours just about year round! In the winter when we have a fire (we installed a fireplace for the ambiance ), we have to turn the a/c on!

That's what I have and I love them, I keep only the rooms I use cool and I don't get sick as often as I did when I had central air.

I have a single unit in my bedroom and I'll only use it if it's crazy hot or if I'm in the shower (which is off the bedroom)and don't want to deal with the residual humidity.

But to sleep with it on is unthinkable. It dries out my throat and leaves me too cold. I can't imagine central air. ick.

I haven't had any air conditioning for about 5-6 years. It was MURDER in my last apartment in the summer, but in this one it hasn't been so bad as it's a basement apartment and for the most part keeps pretty cool. The only trouble is, it got HOT and humid quite early this year. It's already been in the 80's and 90's for a few weeks and that usually doesn't start till mid July around here. I'm considering buying one of those new-ish room a/c things, but they're around $300 and I'm not sure I want to pay for it. I can't get a cheap window one, cause I don't have a window that it would fit into.

The basic trick is to keep air moving in the space. They make stylish oscillating fans now that are weaker and less efficient at moving air as celing fans, but still do the trick--you just may need to place one in several corners of your place.

The unit above is an air-evaporator. The air coming out of the unit *is* cooler than the room temperature--though it won't actually "chill" you the way A/C will, it does make a bit of a difference (moreso than a fan) when using it.

It using a technique of evaporating water through the air, which causing a cooling sensation. I know this works cause when I went to Vegas and got out of the pool, due to the extremely dry air, the rate of evaporation on my body was very quick, and despite the 107 degree weather, I felt chilly when it was happening.

I love my central air. In the summer, I would not be able to sleep without it. I hate sweating.
