Okay... I am interested in seeing how many of us are either atheists or agnostics.

I count myself as agnostic, but in relation to the christian god, I would be considered an atheist.

I do not believe in any sentient, loving, benevolent creator of the universe who rewards and punishes his creations. I do, however, believe that there could be a universal mathematical construct that underlies all life and matter and that this construct could be called god. The fact that I cannot prove or disprove god's existence makes me an agnostic, as I cannot say for sure that there is no god.

Call me what you will... either atheist or agnostic.

Count me in. I basically consider myself an atheist, but I'm open to the possibilty that my beliefs could change one day.

(Christians please note: Do not think this means I want you to tell me all about your beliefs in the hope you can "enlighten" me. I'll find my own path my own way.)

Anyway, I can understand why some choose to be atheists or agnostics and that it's a belief based on many criteria and experiences. And as Carrie said, it's important that we all remain open to other possibilities. I know Christians are the worst examples of what terrible things can happen when people settle on a belief and then close their minds to everything else, even going so far as to persecute everything else including their own kind. My belief in God has been discouraged many times because of them. I've also been discouraged because of Christianity's hypocritical past. But along the way there have been noble people, precious gems of integrity, who have stood up among the ignorance, hate and hypocrisy, giving to others through self-sacrificing acts of kindness, love, compassion, and understanding. Jesus was one of them, and they are his true followers. At the very least, I try to follow His example. Even athesists and agnostics could do that. What makes me a Christian is my belief in who Jesus is and that He is.

I'm an atheist. Agnostic sounds so indecisive. Check out the definition...

One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God.

One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism.

One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something.

I'm an athiest too.

I'll need some good solid proof to believe in god. I'm yet to see the faintest inkling of it. Who knows, maybe one day?

What I meant was, I know organized religion is not for me. My beliefs concerning that will never change. (Although, as for other people- whatever floats your boat!) I'm talking more about my own spirituality and the thought of a "higher power." I know I won't ever believe in the traditional notion of "God" but I may not always consider myself an atheist either. Does that make sense?

Anyway, I appreciate your agreement on keeping an open mind!

Seriously ... i wish it wasnt such a critical issue so i could celebrate my faith rather than mourn it but there is so much 2 think about there4 i myself do not feel lucky in any case, eventhough I know there r not answers 2 everything.. its just hard!! ... I do strongly believe however that there is something above and below (not literally, im not talking about the Christian heaven n hell concept) ... more like a personal & impersonal energy that underlines xistence ... but which way do we go? Well thats 4 us 2 decide, we can choose whether 2 do this (possibly b/c of one big Atonement??? But by a man Jesus im not 2 sure) or that (main point is 2 strive 2 become something higher than ourselves... well higher as in 'get closer 2 the unknown' ... its all about learning, working n growth blah blah blah hehe)but nature and such things can propel us in other directions & make us think otherwise ... hot damn 2 much ... did I mention that I dot think there is an “end” ... eternity is now ... everything has an origin ... so perhaps we will “meet and understand” ours in another dimension ...???
