Gluten intolerance

Ok, I'm preparing for one of my many check-ups and doctor visits. Its the year of the check up. I have to go to the dermatologist this week for my Keratosis pilaris. A lovely skin disorder I've had FOREVER. mad

I also do some research before I go to any doctors office because I don't want them trying to run some game on me and this is a new doctor.

As I'm reading I came across all this info on how a gluten-free diet may clear up this disorder but also may address some intestinal issues I've had over the past few years.

eek Is anyone on a gluten free diet and is it hard to maintain?

Not me but my business partner is...although as far as i am aware gluten intolerance has many forms, for some it is just wheat gluten, others it is all glutens and that is way more complicated. He is just wheat gluten and it really isnt a major issue as long as you are aware.
Good luck Rhonda hug

My brother has an extreme case of eczema so I do understand your pain. You know some say that eczema is also caused by food allergies.

http://www.keratosispilaris.org
Keratosis Pilaris is a very common genetic follicular disease manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin. Primarily, it appears on the back and outer sides of the upper arms, but can also occur on thighs and buttocks or any body part except palms or soles. There are several different types of keratosis pilaris, including keratosis pilaris rubra (red, inflamed bumps), alba (rough, bumpy skin with no irritation), rubra faceii (reddish rash on the cheeks) and related disorders.

Hmmm. That reminds me of something calle Psuedo Faliculitus Barbae (sp??) which black men and darker "curly" haired men get when shaving their faces. The Air Force tought this in hygiene class and said that those who suffer from it could get wavers to grow their facial hair within a certain length to prevent the condition. But it's far different from what you're describing.

I *do* think my eczema is due to allergies. I'm jut not sure what they are.
I think it's my fucking house. When I went to Germany, after 3 weeks, the eczema got much better.

I'm back home now and it appears to be coming back the its annoying state.

Did your brothers condition come and go? Or is it pretty much permenant?

His comes and goes but his skin has been scarred by his eczema. I know he has gone to just as many dermatologist as I have. With KP, it never goes away but it can get worse. For me, it gets worse in the summer time but I'm going to look into what allergies I may have.

keratosis pilaris is an inherited skin condition normally doctors recommend you eat more fruit and vegetables, wash with very mild soaps and apply moisturisers twice a day. If I was you I would have a food intolerance test done before messing with the diet as Gluten may not be the allergen hug

My step mom and sister are both Celiac (Gluten intolerant) they don’t mind it so much because they have never known any different. But it can be a bit tricky to avoid all traces of gluten. The obvious stuff is fine, no bread, pasta etc but it the flavourings and coating that some food has often contain traces of gluten. Eg Mc Donald’s fries are coated in a product that contains gluten, some chips are coated in salts and flavourings that contain gluten, some powdered stocks and sauces often have gluten in them.

Celiac website publishes all know products that contain gluten.
