Man Diet

I have quite an outspoken opinion on all these faddy girly diets especially the bullshit of the Atkins and I believe that simple health eating (with all those banned substances) and regular exercise has no substitution.

I was always "lucky" that a couple of trips to the gym and my flab goes away, but now it ain't that simple and as I get older the old metabolism DOES appear to be slowing down sad so it is time to put my opinions to the test.

According to my BMI I should be 12 stone (168 lb) or about 76Kg I am just under 13 stone (180 lb) or 82 kg.

I want to get to my ideal BMI (Drop 6Kg, 1 Stone or 14lb) in just over 2 weeks (by the 1st of July) without killing myself at the Gym and changing my eating habits only slightly.

The motivation – summer holidays and I can’t get into my shorts!

The 3 simple rules,

1. Cut down on beer – wine and other alcohol is perfectly ok, otherwise why live?

2. Cut down on fat – eat less fatty foods this is the no-brainer that many people fail to see the logic in.

3. Eat more fruit and veg - just so you feel like you are doing the right thing. I already eat the recommended quantities but a little more can’t hurt and it stops excessive snacking on chocolate and crisps (fat).

I would appreciate your comments and cajolements by way of motivation. I then plan to keep my weight down by adopting these habits permanently and continuing to spread the good word.

If anybody else wants to join Man Diet then the subscription fee is £100,000 but I just gave away the secrets so I guess you can just do it with out subscribing. I would appreciate the company.

Cutting the beer is a PERFECT idea.

Just try to eat less carbs. I'm not saying cut them out completely. But lets say at dinner....instead of Chicken, and a side of potatoes/mac n cheese/stuffing/ WHATEVER you normally have.....replace it with a huge variety of veggies. Broccoli with cheese or cauliflower, a salad, some corn.....yanno.

I want to prove that it is that simple, for anybody. I think it's more about thinking about foor differently rather than thinking you are giving up something.

Which is why this is just out, yea I will eat more salady stuff but as an alternative not as a replacement. Pasta is on the menu for tonight! Carbs are an essential part of our diet and without them you become lazy, lethargic and depressed. The last thing you need when you are trying to motivate yourself to do more exercise which I why I hate Atkins.

i think alcohol is a BIG fattymaker in men. i think one thing that slimmed me down so much was cutting down on drinking. i'm probably wrong on this, but i think drinking less alcohol made me less stupid, too. thumbs up!

Perhaps only while you were drunk hmmm. For some reason clarity is a little impaired after imbibing.

You are right though, I think I could just cut out beer and see what happens but the thought of no beer in my life is too sad bawl

I want a lifestyle that is possible!

I keep up a pretty active lifestyle....lots of exercise, gym time with appropriate levels of cardio...I run on average of 15-20 miles a week...and I mix in sprints and interval work to mix things up...for eats, I cut out unnecessary sugars (like full flavored sodas...enemy #1 of trim man-tummy), eliminated white bread, and mix in a protien shake in place of empty calorie snacks after breakfast and lunch....lots of salads, broccoli, peppers (green, red, yellow), tuna, chicken breast....proportionate sized steak....on some days I eat shrimp and chicken stir fry with pasta and fresh veggies.....and coffee, with sweet n low and milk....

I also take a multivitamin daily....and I drink plenty of water.....and cranberry juice to clean your system out...

in any event, good luck!!!

I'm the opposite of this. I'm 6ft 3 and I doubt much more than 165-168lbs. I need to bulk up and get healthy again.

They will need to fit ashtray holders to the treadmills at the gym, I will suggest it.

A replacement would be to never eat pasta or potatos again and always eat salad. This extreme kind of regimen puts people off dieting. If you simply alternate or mix and match a little it doesn't seem like you are cutting things out that you enjoy. I suppose it's about fighting a psycological battle as much as anything.

Unnecessary sugars include FRUCTOSE. Try to get your vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber from GREEN vegetables. Fuck the protein shakes. Have some REAL food.

omfg You're only supposed to be 12stone?! But you're tall! Surely that would make you a stick insect!

Anyway, I don't like the girly diets anyway, I like la dolce vita. But without past and white bread. And more fruit, less crisps. And no gym, just good old fashioned hard work and walking home! lol

Good luck hug

working out feels really good though.. in the beginning when u 1st start working out it is rough, body has to get used to it, but then your body will develop a dependency on it and u'll love it, u'll feel it and it's healthy for ya. I have a car, but I must walk every week.. I feel nasty if i dont.... finding a workout partner helps too..

It´s true, has to do with your hormones.

Reducing too many simple carbs and eating more protein also helps...and at least three workouts a week and a bit of running. And sex....and lots of water.

It's more a job requirement than any super committment on my part....fat Soldiers usually don't get very far.... biggrin Diet wise, I'll eat a burger just as easily as I will take the extra minute or two to put together the healthy stuff....I agree that sitting there with a food scale and calorie calculator is bordering on retarded...I watch what I eat, but I'm not suicidal if I cheat....

I need to put on weight, but to be honest I'm far less concerned with that than just generally being healthy and cutting out crap food. So, now it's just water, juice or tea and no soda/fizzy pop, lots of fruit from the market, plenty of veggies, pasta, chicken, fish, and bread and virtually no fast food, save for the odd treat. I could probably eat all the fattening food and work out like hell to bulk up a bit, but it won't happen. For now I'd like to healthy and trim. I want to be able to dunk a ball again.

Er...ummmm...the protein shake is for BETWEEN MEAL snacks....not as a replacement for real food...blended with fruit, its a lot healthier than stuffing my face with junk food which I'm much more likely to want to do...
