The BMI is just a target, you are right even a stone over this weight doesn't make me overweight for my height. I just don't feel great about the way I look or my belt size - probably just vanity!

I need to put on weight, but to be honest I'm far less concerned with that than just generally being healthy and cutting out crap food. So, now it's just water, juice or tea and no soda/fizzy pop, lots of fruit from the market, plenty of veggies, pasta, chicken, fish, and bread and virtually no fast food, save for the odd treat. I could probably eat all the fattening food and work out like hell to bulk up a bit, but it won't happen. For now I'd like to healthy and trim. I want to be able to dunk a ball again.

Worried about being too thin is a nice worry, but thats where my man boobs are from. I used to be super skinny when I was at uni, started to bulk up went down the gym (not in a scary obsessive way) but now, 10 years or so later, that muscle is turning to fat and it is a struggle to keep it up. I have no doubt that in the end gravity will win.

But you are dead right about feeling healthier, I just don't feel great at the moment, this is a way to change a bit.

Anyway - day one was fine. I don't feel like I missed out on food much, didn't get down the gym cus I finished work late - confused too much org hmmm

Breakfast was a coffee and a non low fat cereal bar (nature valley drool) rather than just coffee like normal then I crave pastries or sausage roll when I get to work confused

Lunch was a ready made quiche from supermarket and half a kilo of strawberries which I ate throughout the afternoon.

No other coffees or snacks that would normally permeate the boredom of the 2-6pm slot.

Dinner was pasta with smoked salmon and cream (not quite the same quantity of cream as usual) and then meringue with apricots and peaches (this was a bizarre turn of events - we never have dessert! anyway, we will see what happens)

I walked up the stairs at work instead of taking the lift (elevator) for 2 of my many journeys, I always walk down. My office is on the 11th floor.

This morning two coffees and Alpen (high fat museli) for breakfast.

Oh, wait... There isn't one! lol

As for your weight-loss diet, you just need to lower your carbohydrates and minimize your fat intake to under ten grams a day.

Don't eat potatoes, pastry or pasta for a month. I lost a stone last year doing this and I've never regained the weight. I cut down on bread to around six wholemeal slices a week and used rice to accompany most meals. Stay away from all dairy produce too, except for cottage cheese. I still ate six eggs a week but they were always either poached or boiled.

My top tips are:

01. Raw carrots. Great for snacking on. Easy to peel, sweeter than apples and less acidic.

02. Frozen skinless chicken breasts. I lived off these. ASDA Smart Price sell huge bags in their freezer section for about £5.00. You can roast them from frozen too in about 40 minutes. Two of these roasted contain less fat than the average packet of potato crisps.

03. Instant Savoury Rice. Again, you're looking at just 37p a bag from ASDA. Just add boiling water, pop in the microwave for 15 minutes and you're done.

04. Tuna in brine. I went through about a dozen cans a week. Stir a drained can into the aforementioned savoury rice, add a couple of spoons of passata and you have a tuna rissoto with less than three grams of fat.

05. Fry nothing! Poach two eggs, grill two rashers of bacon (or turkey rashers), add a small can on baked beans and loads of peeled sliced microwaved mushrooms. Eat with one slice of wholemeal toast. It'll still fill you up.

I eat a lot of tuna too. Is there a genuine risk with mercury poisoning?

Tesco is great. When back in the UK Mon was buying these ready meals with all the info on the front about fat grams and daily percentage etc. and she lost a lot of weight. Said they were tasty too. They're just starting to get them in Thailand at Tesco now too. Are all the British supermarkets doing those now?

My man boobs have almost disappeared. I tried doing sit-ups, press-ups and near-starvation diets and in the end, do you know what worked?

Walking.

I have no idea why walking would decrease the flab on my torso, but it did. You'd think you'd have to localise any exercise to the problematic area, but doing so seemed to have no effect.

I started walking to work instead of taking the bus and would carry my work shoes in a rucksack on my back, to change into later. I don't walk every day now (mainly because I've been doing super-early shifts and would have to wake-up at 5:30 am to make time for the walk) but I do still walk home a few times a week.

I guess so. I don't buy ready meals though.

Most of what I eat is based on raw salads with cooked meat or fish these days.

Being fit and eating well is no mystery to me. I've been very lean and extremely fit in the past. Right now I look basically the same but am lighter but have a bit of a beer gut. The mystery to me is quite how to live in Thailand and put on some weight.

Anybody that has some good, practical suggestions for what kind of food to eat to put on a bit of bulk please do help me out. I'm exercising but not looking to pile on the muscle or anything like that. Just need to get fit again but make sure I don't waste away while doing it. The getting fit I can handle, but the food is more of a problem.

I had a lovely afternoon last Saturday, punctuated by the sound of gunshots. A few of the residents had decided to make a shooting gallery by pegging empty beer cans onto my clothes lines. I was not amused. I had wanted to hang out some washing.

I have quite an outspoken opinion on all these faddy girly diets especially the bullshit of the Atkins and I believe that simple health eating (with all those banned substances) and regular exercise has no substitution.

I was always "lucky" that a couple of trips to the gym and my flab goes away, but now it ain't that simple and as I get older the old metabolism DOES appear to be slowing down sad so it is time to put my opinions to the test.

According to my BMI I should be 12 stone (168 lb) or about 76Kg I am just under 13 stone (180 lb) or 82 kg.

I want to get to my ideal BMI (Drop 6Kg, 1 Stone or 14lb) in just over 2 weeks (by the 1st of July) without killing myself at the Gym and changing my eating habits only slightly.

The motivation – summer holidays and I can’t get into my shorts!

The 3 simple rules,

1. Cut down on beer – wine and other alcohol is perfectly ok, otherwise why live?

2. Cut down on fat – eat less fatty foods this is the no-brainer that many people fail to see the logic in.

3. Eat more fruit and veg - just so you feel like you are doing the right thing. I already eat the recommended quantities but a little more can’t hurt and it stops excessive snacking on chocolate and crisps (fat).

I would appreciate your comments and cajolements by way of motivation. I then plan to keep my weight down by adopting these habits permanently and continuing to spread the good word.

If anybody else wants to join Man Diet then the subscription fee is £100,000 but I just gave away the secrets so I guess you can just do it with out subscribing. I would appreciate the company.

I just lost 3.5 kg in 3 weeks by doing the following:

1. Absolutely no alcohol.

2. Absolutely no sweets and cake.

3. Absolutely no Coke or lemonade - water only.

4. Avoid fatty food - buy fat-reduced and healthy stuff, lots of fruits etc.

5. Exercise 3 x a week at the gym (avoid things building up muscles, cardiovascular training and sit-ups only, try to stay in the fat-burning region, so pulse should be not too high).

I feel very well with that.
