americans are just so non intelligent (spelling?)
when it comes to comedy of any sort the brits are deff on top

with the brit I think it all has to do with the nasty jokes.. not alot of americans understand it, which kind of makes it funnyer cause their all like "huh?"

I hate when they "americanize" the brit coms it just ruins the whole thing.

For example The Office in the UK where Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant wrote it was way more sarcastic,ironic and down right cringe worthy that the awful US version that went all mainstream and changed the whole dynamic of the comedy.

I have spent a while trying to show a shanti some new UK comedy that even some Brits dont get on with and she loved it....not sure all Americans get it but give it 10 years and it will get there...a bit like Monty Python did.

As far as who is funnier- there are many great comedians from both places really- it is a toss up.

Brit humor is idiotic, there's absolutely no subtlety in it.

Even though many of the American comedies are too crude to be funny, I'd still say I prefer the American humour. Especially when it comes to regular people. Talk to a random American at a party for example and they're very likely to crack more funny jokes than a random Brit would. On the other hand, there are some predictable patterns in American humour so even though they're generally funnier, the Brits more often come up with fresher angles.
