Yay for Gerhard Schroeder! -------
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti... "I've just had an apostrophe!" "I think you mean an epiphany..."

I was in Berlin recently for the first time, I saw all the political posters up around the place, I don't think they've quite got the hang of political slanging matches, they just had a nice picture up of all the candidates, "This is me, I look a bit like your grandfather, vote for me" whereas it should have been like in this country (UK) "The opposition are even worse than we are, even if you don't vote for us, please don't vote for them!"

the problem with this election: the two candidates were too similar. the only difference between them is the opinion about the iraq-policy. I totally agree that this campaign was a disaster, none of the candidates got his message accross. the result is no surprise: 38,8 percent for the conservative CDU, 38,1 percent for the social democrats. only through a coalition with the green party the social democrats could stay in power. the seats in the parliament are 305 to 298. He only won because he promised the Germans he'd stay out of a war with Iraq.
As if they would have anyway.

The last minute CD gesture to deport 4000 Muslims if elected was a sickening appeal.

hell yea--- you have to make clear though that the conservatives were talking about "fundamentalists associated with terror groups".. however, it was a gesture out of desperation... "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"

"let's see, what can i do for you to get me into a chancellorship today." but i suppose deportation is a lot better option on the receiving end than what they used to do.

Yeah I missed that bit out for effect although I doubt all 4000 are terrorists. not at all... but you know that germany is paradise for fundamentalists because of its strict human/civil rights laws... its gives them a lot of freedom to work, and soon they'll get their 77 virgins too, I suppose ;- "Peace and Benz -- The future, made in Germany"
