Where Should I Vacation?

I'm going on vacation in August.

I want to go somewhere either a short plane ride (1-3 hours) or 1-2 day drive (6-10 hours) from San Francisco.

I'm going w/ my girl, so I'd like somewhere kind of nice & romantic, w/stuff to do, but probably not a big city. Not too expensive, but not camping.

Warm weather, and maybe some water. Ocean, lake, or amazing pools. We'd like to lounge around in the sun & read.

Where should I go? (please include any suggestion that doesn't perfectly fit my description, too, just in case.)

I was going to suggest Santa Barbara, I live here...then I read "not too expensive" and that excludes this damn expensive city!!!!

SB is very nice. Been there lots of times. I stayed at the Fess Parker Doubletree (right across from the beach) a few years ago for a wedding, also my sister went to UCSB.

What part of SB are you in?

Oh, that's easy: Vancouver! You get to go abroad which is always fun, it's beautiful there and it's not too expensive either. I'm not certain you could get there within the time limit you set up, but it would be worth the extra time.

Actually, it might be much too far away now that I think about it, but I'd still go if I were you and had the chance.

I think that's close enough by plane. I'm considering there & Victoria. Is it warm in August?

Absolutely. People think that because it's in Canada it has to be cold but it really isn't. I remember when I used to live there, I didn't have to put on a coat or a thick sweater until some time in November.

I know Seattle gets really warm in the summer. Actually the sun is probably more direct over Vancouver/Seattle during the summer than in Los Angeles.
