Braces and Retainers...your stories

Who wore braces and retainers? Who is still wearing them? How long did you have them? Any memories you would like to share, feelings of inadequacy, did you eat something that you weren't supposed to and messed up the braces, did anybody wear head gear?

I wore braces for four years starting in my Junior year of college. My teeth had overbites, space in between the teeth as well as one tooth was pushed up into the gum, it had been like that most of my life. Braces did a tremendous work to correct all of that. Initially I felt weird getting braces in my 20's, but I got over that pretty quick. The last month of having braces I wore red and green rubberbands since it was December and I was adventurous with wearing different colors over the metal.

My eating habits didn't change, but serious cleaning was necessary at times. Once I bent the wire in the back of my mouth from eating pizza bread crust. OUCH! I remember it happened on a Saturday and I was desperately trying to go to his office. I think it bent back into place because the pain was so horrible that I tried all that I could to get it back into place without having to see him.

The retainers are purple and I kept up with them for the past 9 years. I finally had to replace the bottom retainer because it didn't sit right in my mouth anymore. Now they have the kind that are molded to fit over all the teeth and it's clear. I'll probably replace the other one in a few months.

I wore braces for almost three years. My teeth were so messed up that the orthodontists took pictures of the before and after results to show them off at a national convention! eek or some medical conference thing! but still.
My eating habits changed since I could not eat things that were crunchy or chewy for fear the braces would break or something.
I really like spicy food. I mostly put Jalapenos on a lot of my food.

I'm getting braces in about 2 months because I have an overbite and a couple of spaces in my teeth so I'm anxious to fix that.

Either way, I'm still sexy lol lol

I wore braces for 3 years and used a retainer after they were removed. My top teeth are pretty straight and my bottom row of teeth were straight for a while. My mouth is too small for the teeth in the bottom row, so now one of my teeth sticks out a bit. My dentist wants to remove the tooth, but I'm not removing it no no no!

I hate them.. one crosses over and I hate it but the dentist said if he had done that, he would have to remove 2 teeth to make space and I would have gaps.. thats why he didnt give me braces when I was little..

I remember I was going to visit my boyfriend in Europe for a month and I talked my orthodontist into taking my braces off a couple of months early so that I wouldn't have them for my trip. I didn't tell him that I was looking forward to giving head without them. falloff

I wore braces at the age of 12 (for about 2 years I think).

I am now 36, and I still have scar tissue inside my mouth from where the wires would poke into my cheeks along the sides, (between the regular adjustments).

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed at age 17, it was a bit too crowded back there and it would have been trouble in the long run. I was knocked out and my dad had to shake me to wake up. I'm so glad I didn't feel it, cuz I'm sensitive to pain as well. I looked like a chipmunk for 48 hours and my mouth was so numb that I missed it while trying to drink a vanilla milkshake. It's probably for the best just to have them removed.

Had braces for a couple of years in high school. I also had to wear a palatal expander which FUCKING SUCKED.

I didn't wear my retainer so my bottom teeth are a bit crooked again, but I actually like the way it looks - not so perfect.

I wore my first set of braces for 5 years, from 14-19. I had an awful overbite, my jaw didnt sit right, and I had lots of extra teeth. I was suppose to wear my retainers all day, every day for 2 years after I had them removed. Since day one, I wore my retainers only at night.

I couldnt eat corn on the cob, because me teeth felt loose.

At 26, I had my second set of braces put on, the same time my son put his on. My jaw shifted, and a bit of the overbit returned sad. I wore my second set for 2 1/2 years. I wear my retainers at night.

First set of braces 6,000.00
Second set of braces (me) 5,000.00
son's braces 4,500.00

$15,500.00

I could have bought some killer abs and boobs!!!
