I really don't think I have but I've made several drunken calls that I'm sure were pathetic. But hey! A can of courage let the emotions flow!!

I being mexican/american, took no offense. The way the question was worded was "some latins in films" she did not say in "real life". I see that as a correct statement, mexicans in movies are portrayed as drunk losers, drinking the pain away. If she had said "all mexicans are drunk losers" then that would have set me off.

The question was addressed as follows: Drink to Forget?
Ok some have seen those films in which a Latino or Latinos (most likely Mexicans) sit at a bar and drink hoping to forget a love that went wrong etc. So when did you last drink to forget and what kind of music did you listen to? I don't see anything racists in the way I asked the question, and by the way I am also Mexican-American so why would I offendy myself? [Edited 5/30/07 11:30am] I really like spicy food. I mostly put Jalapenos on a lot of my food.

but yeah...its a latin thing. i still say this thread smells. Well, I watch mostly films from 30's-70's with stars like Jorge Negrete and that is the way the "charro" is portrayed when they hurt about something. I don't watch too many movies in English. I really like spicy food. I mostly put Jalapenos on a lot of my food.

I read the thread topic, and it sent off no racist feelings at all. I did not feel like she was wording it to hurt anyone. She worded it, to make a scenario.

I also thought she was Mexican herself, so I didn't think there was anything offensive about it.

Okay, so this thread kinda got lost along the way, but I really wanted to answer your initial question.
I hate to get all serious and stuff but I really did want to talk to you about this when I say the thread. Just a warning. Please be careful about drinking to forget/escape. I started drinking for fun around the age of 13, like most kids do. I'd sneak out with older guys and what not...you know how that goes. I continued on the normal path that a teen does...you know nothing out of the normal. I met my husband when I was 20 and did the bar scene with him. He was 26 at the time and drank a case of beer a nite. I thought, no biggie, were young, its a phase. FF a couple a yrs and him and I TOGETHER are drinking a quarter barrel a week. Where am I going with this. Lemme get back to your question. I became a stay at hime mom and my husband became EXTREMELY verbally abusive and a tad physical. I started drinking to escape and numb the pain. I'd start drinking around 11 am. I wouldn't get drunk....just a little buzz to ease the pain. My husband in the meantime got DUI and I hatye to admit, I also drank and drove on occasion. FF me and hubby split, I get DEPENDENT on alcohol. (I am only now coming to realise this). Anyways me and my husband are back together he quit drinking and he is FABULOUS AND HONORABLE. HE IS A GREAT MAN! I on the other hand, am NOT a great person. I'm a fucking little ungrateful bitch, and I have some forgetting to do now. So I start drinking whiskey now at 9:30 am. Not drunk. Just a little bit of a numb face. I get uncontrollable shakes if I don't drink. Don't get me wrong, I'm not like a junkie type strung out. I'm a mom. A pretty awesome one. All the kids come over every week from the neighborhood, and the other moms, and I'm awesome with this for real. But I'm also a drunk. I drink to forget. But I don't forget, I get numb, then when I start to remember, I gotta drink agian. You see? Don't do it.
