Somebody please explain the last 5 minutes of the season finale

All the stuff with Jack and his drug addiction...was actually a flash forward. After they get off the island. Evidently Jack and Kate get off the island. And someone they both know has died....but who?

my wife came home w/ a Complete Emergency( work related, but crucial to her world) @ 10:49 pm and I had to give her my complete and utter attention. The last thing I saw was Locke planting his knife in ole girls back, and jack holding the phone while someone was on the other end. WTF happened???

IF IT WAS A FLASH FORWARD, WHY.. sorry, why was Jack saying to bring his father down at the hospital? He's been DEAD... I mean... dead.

So many questions still left unanswered!! I take from the finale that they all got off the island, minus Charlie of course (man, that scene broke me down !!!) and that Kate is with Sawyer except that I was thinking it may be Sawyer who's dead, since no one showed up to the funeral
But Jack was really traumatized by the news so I have no idea who it could be.

Guess there'll be a season 4?

A) It was to throw viewers off the scent that it was a flash-forward.

B) I think Jack said it in a non-literal way... His father had worked at the hospital for years and years and been drunk as a fish yet no one ever said anything to him.

As far as who was in the coffin I think it was either Ben OR someone we haven't met yet.

...and I half expect Season 4 to partially take place in the present day with flashbacks to them on the Island filling in the blanks OR from here on out we'll be getting flash-forwards in place of flashbacks..

This was the BEST season finale of any show that I watched this year. This 2 hour show was intriguing, heartbreaking, mysterious, etc!

I LOVED IT!

"Lost" is my favorite show!

The ending sucked eggs, so pissed, his beard was ugly lol, who was the guy in the coffin? Kate looks gorgeous. I want to know what happened to everyone else. Walt got super big...surprised to see him. Hope Charlie didn't die. Poor Hugo..first "you're too big...you won't fit in the boat." Then Sawyer said, Look at you you'll get in the way." But he's a hero now. I still want to know who is Jacob....

That was a short coffin...

Idea...going on the assumption that only kate and Jack got off the island. Maybe next season will start with Jack and Kate trying to get back to the island to save the rest. Also they will have to reveal who those people are who were coming to rescue them. They will be the bad guys for next season...since the Others are all dead.

It's gonna be good next season. Too bad we have to wait til January 2008.

I was also wondering who was in that coffin...I think it might be Ben, or Locke. Here is a website that breaks down the obit Jack was holding. Enjoy!

Really, I thought it was the last 15 minutes that made the finale... The rest was fine but didn't really make for the best season ender, imo - especially given that we have to wait until 2008 for the follow-up. It wasn't bad, it was all good but just sort of "meh".

Nah, since the flashback was actually the present time, there are still 2 years between when they were on the island (they've only been there like 90 days or something) and Jack's present-day meltdown.

But by showing that at least 2 people (3 if you count the one who was in the casket) make it off the island, they were sending the message that the story is heading somewhere and alot of shit's gonna happen in the final few seasons.

I hope the Jack's father call out will be explained and not with that weak George Lucas "from a certain point of view" excuse that Jack was being figurative...

I think it's Jacob that has appeared as Ben's mom, Jack's Dad, Walt, Shannon, Boon, etc.
Jack's reference to his father could have been dillusional, just something to make us think it was a flashback. Or maybe his dad is still alive. Or comes back to life or something. Who knows?
I wonder if Jack will ever find out that Claire is his half-sister...?
