extrnal hard-drive

hey, just wondering if anyone can help me. I've just purchased an external hard-drive for my lap top. I've moved over video's and pics fine. But i want to move my music files over too.
I play my music on itunes, and when i move my music, it wont be able to find the songs. Is it possible to move my songs onto my external hard-drive, without having to upload them all again onto Itunes?

awaiting your replys.
Many thnaks in advance, M.

Hmm dont know - worst case scenario is that you put them across and then just "add folder to library" from the new drive.....it might take a while fo rit to get them all back in if you have a lot but it wont mean mucking about with CDs

you will have to import your songs into itunes after you've moved them onto your external hard-drive, this way itunes will know that they're located there!

and then your external breaks down..... neutral

no i've done nothing so far, thought i'd get some advice first.

Perhaps i could just move all my music then add library, but call me sad, but i'll lose all my play counts and ratings that way confused lol

hmm, well i followed the aple web page's advice and it's worked - to an extent.
All the files have moved accross, including my artwork. But it hasn't remembered my play count, ratings or playlists neutral

I didn't have to do that at all confused

It's been a while but I remember going into my options in ITunes & just telling it the new drive where I'd like everything save. I think ITunes took care of the rest, or maybe I had to grab the folders & move them, but I haven't had any problems & didn't have to rip anything over again because of it.

Just set up the new drive as the designated spot for your ITunes stuff & see what happens. If nothing does, just move one folder over & try to play it in ITunes, see if it can find it. If so, move the rest of it shrug If not, hell I dunno...
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart
