A couple years ago, I would have probably advised against it for gaming. Now, I'd say you're safe with the wireless routers released lately. The wireless-G with speedbooster and the new wireless-N are your best bets. We have a wireless-G router although we only have one wireless computer at the moment. It does well enough for that one. A plus is having the CAT5e plug-ins on it as well so everything else in the house, 4 other computers, are still connected to it, too. Before our house was finished, I installed a wired network, so either way I'm set.

Alrighty then.. that was a mountain of jibberish to my uneducated brain! Lets see, I just purchased wireless G desktop cards.... I am hoping this will do the trick basically?

I'm wireless and in an apartment and my signal drops out several times a day, but never for extended periods.
I've got my modem in the living room and my office, where the computer is, is in the second bedroom (aka Supa's bungalow). Honestly I'd rather put up with a dropped signal every few hours than yards of cord going through my pad.
Although, it does slow down gaming a tad.
